Switching on audiosystemSwitch on the ignition.If the audio system was onwhen the ignition was switchedoff, it automatically switches onagain.

If the audio system does notswitch on automatically: pressthe ON button.Audio system is in the mostrecently used operating mode.To switch on the audio systemwith the ignition switched off:press the ON button imme-

diately after switching off theignition.

If the on-board electron-ics ascertain that the bat-

tery is too weak, the audio sys-tem is shut down even thoughthe ignition is switched on. Un-der these circumstances youcan switch the audio system onagain as soon as the battery hasbeen recharged or the engine isrunning.

The audio system remainsON for approximately 20, thenautomatically switches itselfoff. If you want to reactivatethe system after it switches offautomatically you must switchon the ignition.

Switching off audiosystemSwitch off the ignition.Audio system switched off.

Indicator to show that the audiosystem is switched off.

To switch on the audio systemwith the ignition switched on:press the ON button.

Repeatedly press the CD/* but-ton to step through the se-quence to the operating modeyou want.

You can switch from theCD or AUX operating mode

directly to radio mode by press-ing either the FM button or theAM button. Pressing the CD/*button is the only way of exitingthe INTERCOM mode.

The operating modes arestepped through in thefollowing sequence:RadioCD player

Volume and speedThe audio system can automatic-ally adapt the playback volume tothe speed. To achieve this, oneof four possible adaptation curvesmust be selected.

Adapting volume to speed

Press and hold down the MANbutton until the reading on thedisplay changes.Press buttons 2 and 4 to se-lect a volume range.SVOL OFF: Speed-depend-ent volume increase switchedoffSVOL 1: Minimum speed-dependent volume increaseSVOL 4: Maximum speed-dependent volume increaseThe current range is automatic-ally accepted as your desiredsetting if you wait a certain

Adjusting front/rearvolume fade setting

If the motorcycle is fitted withrear speakers, press buttons 2and 4 to adjust the front/rearvolume fade setting.

Adjusting left/rightvolume balance setting

If the motorcycle is fitted withrear speakers, press buttons 2and 4 to adjust the left/rightvolume balance setting.

Switching sound curve(loudness) on/off

WavebandsSelecting FM range

Press the FM button.

The FM-AS band is usedfor saving stations automat-

ically. In the FM band stationshave to be saved manually.

Each time you press the buttonthe system toggles betweenFM and FM-Autostore (FM-AS).When the radio is in the FM-AS wavelength range the dis-play shows AS C.

Radio Data System (RDS)Some stations broadcasting inthe FM waveband transmit addi-tional information, including pro-gramme names.

Switching RDS functionon or off

Repeatedly press the FM but-ton until the reading on thedisplay changes.RDS ON: RDS functionswitched on.RDS OFF: RDS functionswitched off.

If RDS is active, the name of theRDS station to which the receiv-er is tuned appears on the dis-play. If the station name is notincluded in the broadcast RDSinformation, the display showsRDS and the current frequency.

Regional broadcastsAt certain times of the day, somestations in the FM wavebandbroadcast regional programmesthat can be received only in spe-cific regions within the broadcastfootprint. The radio's REG func-tion has to be activated in order

for it to receive these regionalprogrammes.After you switch on in the 'Radio'operating mode or when you firstselect the 'Radio' operating modeafter switching on, you have onlya certain limited time in whichyou can activate or deactivate theREG function.

Switching REG functionon or off

Switch on the radio.The status of the REG functionappears briefly on the display.Press the FM button to togglethe REG function on or off.

REG ON: REG functionswitched on.REG OFF: REG functionswitched off.

Selecting AM range

Press the AM button.Each time you press the buttonthe system cycles between theMW, LW and SW wavebands.

Automatic station searchin FM waveband

Press and hold down button 2or 4 until the display changes.The display shows RDS or FMand the current frequency.Search sensitivity II A isshown.The receiver searches up ordown the bandwidth, as applic-able, until it finds the next sta-tion transmitting with adequatesignal strength.The display shows either aname or a frequency, indic-

ating the station to which thereceiver is tuned.Press button 2 or 4.The receiver searches for thenext station transmitting at ad-equate signal strength.

Automatic station searchin AM waveband

Press and hold down button 2or 4 until the display changes.The display shows SEEK andthe current frequency.Search sensitivity II A isshown.The receiver searches up ordown the bandwidth, as applic-

able, until it finds the next sta-tion transmitting with adequatesignal strength.The display shows a frequency,indicating the station to whichthe receiver is tuned.Press button 2 or 4.

If the receiver scans theentire waveband without

finding a station broadcastinga signal of receivable strength,search sensitivity is increased toII and the search is repeated.If the receiver completes twohigh-sensitivity searches of thewaveband without locking ontoa single station broadcasting asignal of receivable strength,the display briefly showsNO STATION and the radioreturns to the frequency it wasset to prior to the search.

The receiver searches for thenext station transmitting at ad-equate signal strength.

During a search with sensitivityI, press button 2 or 4 twice insuccession.Sensitivity is increased from Ito II.

Scanning waveband

Press the SC/RP button.The display shows SCAN untila station transmitting a signalof receivable strength is found.Each station found is played for10 seconds.The display shows the name ofthe station or SCAN, with the

frequency on which the stationis transmitting.Press the SC/RP button, but-ton 2 or button 4 to select thestation currently playing.

Station memoryMemory slotsThe numbers of memory slotsavailable are as follows:FM: 6FM AutoStore: 6MW: 6LW: 6SW: 6

Automatic station save isnot available in the FM

waveband.

Automatic save alwaysoverwrites memory slots

assigned beforehand.

The display shows AS-SEEK.The six strongest stations areautomatically saved.The station saved to memoryslot 1 is played.

If no stations broadcasting sig-nals of sufficient strength arefound, the display briefly showsNO STATION.

Traffic channelMethod of operation

If a station broadcasting on theFM waveband transmits trafficannouncements, this is includedin the RDS information ( 20).The display shows the symbolT B. This is the precondition foractivating the traffic-programmeannouncements function.When the TP function is active,all other operating modes areinterrupted for the duration of thetraffic announcement. You canswitch on the traffic-programmefunction only if RDS is active.

Activating traffic-programme functionSwitch the RDS function on oroff ( 20)

Press and hold down button 1until the reading on the displaychanges.The traffic-programme functionis activated.The display shows TP B.

The display shows TP-INFOwhile a traffic-programme an-nouncement is in progress.

Traffic-programmevolumeThe volume of the traffic an-nouncements can be changedin relation to the volume for theother audio sources.

Adjusting traffic-programme volume

While a traffic-programme an-nouncement is in progress,press buttons 3 and 5 to ad-just volume to your personalpreference.

If volume is muted duringa traffic-programme an-

nouncement, output volume isalso muted for all other audiosources.

The volume setting you selectin this way is saved.

All subsequent traffic-programme announcementsare played at this volume.

Safety instructionsOperating temperatures

The CD player is designedto operate in the temperat-

ure range from 0 °C to 60 °C.In order to avoid malfunctions,use the CD player only in thespecified temperature range.

High relative humidity cancause condensation to form

on the focusing lens of the laserbeam, causing disc-read errors.

RepairsThe CD player is a Class 1laser device.

Do not remove the housing cov-er; have all repairs carried out bytrained, qualified specialists.

Handling CDsHold CDs by the outer rimonly.Make every effort to keepCDs free of fingerprints, dust,scrapes and moisture.Do not affix adhesive labels toCDs.Clean your CDs from time totime, wiping them gently fromthe centre toward the rim witha CD cleaning cloth.

Switching on CD playerSwitch on the audio system( 12)

Press the CD/* button to selectthe operating mode for the CDplayer.

If the CD drive is empty,the CD player starts auto-

matically as soon as a CD isinserted.

The first track on the CD or thetrack played most recently isplayed.The display shows the name ofthe track.If there is no CD in the player,the display shows NO CD.If the CD is not playable, thedisplay shows CD ERROR.

Slip the CD about one third ofthe way into CD slot 1.The CD is automatically pulledin the rest of the way.If the audio system is not yetin CD mode, this mode is auto-matically activated.The first track on the CD isplayed.The display shows the name ofthe track.

Ejecting CDSwitch on the audio system( 12)

Press eject button 2.The CD slides part-way out ofthe slot.The radio mode is activated.

Selecting track

Press button 2 or 4.The track number increases ordecreases by one each timeyou press the correspondingbutton.

Scanning CD

Press the SC/RP button.Starting at the current track,each track on the CD is playedfor approximately 10 seconds.The display shows the name ofthe track being played, accom-panied by the letters SC.Press the SC/RP button, but-ton 2 or button 4 to select thetrack currently playing.

The CD scan is abortedafter three passes or if a

button on the operating panel ispressed.

Fast-backing or fast-forwarding tracks

Press the MAN button.The display shows the name ofthe current track, accompaniedby the symbol <>.Press button 2 or 4.The track fast-forwards or fast-backs until you release the but-ton.The display shows the name ofthe current track accompaniedby the symbol >> for fast-for-warding or << for fast-backing.

Selecting tracks byrandom play

Press and hold down the SC/RP button until the reading onthe display changes.The display shows the name ofthe current track, accompaniedby the letters RP.The next track to be played isselected at random.Press the SC/RP button againto exit random-play mode.

RequirementsSuitable audio devices (such asan MP3 player, for example) canbe connected to the audio sys-tem by means of the plug in thestowage compartment.The audio device musthave a compatible connectorbe stowable inside the stowagecompartment.

Connecting audiodevice

Attempting to route theconnecting cable out

between the radio compartmentand the cover can damage theseal.Do not attempt to route the con-necting cable out of the radiocompartment.

The audio device can shiftinside the stowage com-

partment while the motorcycle isin motion.In order to avoid damage, wrap

the audio device with suitableprotective enveloping material.

Use plug 1 to connect the au-dio device to the audio system.Switch on the audio device andslip it into the stowage com-partment.

When the brakes are ap-plied the audio device can

slide forward and hit the ejectbutton of the CD drive. Makesure there is no CD in the drive.

Close the lid of the compart-ment, making sure that neitherthe audio device nor the cableis trapped.

Adjusting input-signallevel

Adjust input-signal level 3 bymeans of buttons 2 and 4.

VolumeAdjust the volume as describedin Chapter 2 ( 13).The volume range at your dis-posal for adjustment depends on:the output power of the audiodevicethe input-signal level you select

the volume to which the audiodevice is set

You should set the input-sig-nal level and adjust the volumeof the audio device in such away that the volume range avail-able for adjustment correspondsto that of the other operatingmodes.
