Within 10 minutes we had our first picture of baby Zachary. As always happens, the discussion begins on who he looks most like, knowing his appearance will eventually change. I agree with most comments, he looks like his papa (that’s me) in his first photo. Two older sisters, Zoe & Emma Kate, visited their new baby brother a few hours after his birth. For a moment, each one sat on a couch and Zachary was placed in her lap. Bonding begins early. Then sisters returned to eating a snack and watching a TV program, and the adjustment to the new normal began. Yesterday I received the first updated family photograph including Zachary. Mom and Dad are smiling proudly. Older sisters seem happy, but maybe a little unsettled. Already this new brother has made his way into their family. Emma Kate is no longer the baby. Mom and Dad are giving him some of their attention. Welcoming someone new into our family, or church family, always changes the family picture. They too belong and share in our life together. Now Vicki and I will begin the process of updating the family pictures in our home. We will relocate some old pictures with just Zoe & Emma Kate to a different room. Pictures of Zachary along with his sisters will soon appear in our den for us to view daily. I have not held him yet, but he has already made it into my heart. That is how family, and church family should work.

Updating the Family Picture

One week ago our oldest daughter Emily and her husband Stephen had their third child.

Spotlight on Adult Sunday School

Here are a few of the new studies being offered or beginning soon:

New Beginnings Class- Donna Hoke “The Call” by Adam Hamilton Follow the journeys of Paul, beginning with his dramatic conversion, as he spread the Gospel through modern-day Greece and Turkey. Travel to the early church sites and explore Paul’s conversations with the Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Thessalonians. In this six-week study, you are invited to experience faith through Christ’s greatest teacher and missionary.

Foundations-Mark Douglas “Twisting the Truth” by Andy Stanley Join Andy Stanley for Twisting the Truth, a six-session small group Bible study developed to help you and your group understand how truth can get twisted and distorted, and how that impacts your life.

Saints-Jan Alexuk “God’s Not Dead” starting 9/13 Based on the hit movie, God's Not Dead, this six week study will help you be prepared to defend your faith. It will give you a strong foundation of scripture and evidence to stand on that will not only help you stay strong, but allow you to reach friends and family for Christ. All adults are invited to join us for this study.

Transformations-Jane Seaman “Here & Now, There & Then” Beth Moore This is a lecture series on the book of Revelation. Beth presents many points of view, allowing women to decide for themselves when the interpretation varies among scholars. She teaches that God is as specific about what He does reveal as He is about what He does not reveal.

This is a great time to try out an adult study. This small group format allows you to connect with other adults in the church and deepen your understanding and your faith. We hope to see you there!

Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Proverbs 8:10-11

ministries, programs and upcoming events.

Volunteers Needed!!

Our church will be hosting this event, which is a fundraiser for Family Promise of Bryan County. We will need lots of volunteers from our congregation to help in

many different ways, including working concessions, acting as ushers and greeters, selling tickets, spreading the word, and of course, coming to enjoy lots of different kinds of Christian music! Vendor booths are available for $35 each, and we are seeking sponsors as well. Watch your email for all the details, or contact Jeanne Wallace for more info.

During campmeeting month, as always, we welcome your requests of favorite hymns!

What are all those little black dots, anyway?

Would you like to learn to read music? I am currently assessing

scheduling possibilities for a youth/adult music-reading class (14 & up). This class will cover basic music notation and theory in 12 weekly 30-minute sessions. Potential times include Sunday afternoon or evening, or Monday evening, depending on availability of those interested. Please contact Jeanne at [email protected] OR call 756-2190, ext. 206.

Children’s Sunday School All New

This Fall!

Begins September 6th at 10 am

“In the depths of who I am I rejoice in God my savior.” LUKE 1:47

With Deep Blue, children will make Bible stories, Bible people, and Bible passages a part of their lives. They will also come to know the Bible as THEIR book and find ways to let the Bible speak to them today! Deep Blue incorporates Bible stories, science activities, arts and crafts, animated video storytelling, and active games into a lived-faith experience that will help children discover what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ today!

Preschool - first floor across from the nursery and is taught by Donna Wallace. Elementary classes are all on the 2nd floor of our education building and are taught by the following: K/1st Rachel Burns and Eloise Green 2nd/3rd Carmen McQueen, Julie Custer, Amanda Hendricks 4th/5th Laura and Bill McKay, Becky Gregg

Now is a wonderful time to get your children involved in Sunday School. This gives them a chance to dig deeper into God’s word, make friendships and connect with children their age. Please contact Janine Blakeborough with any questions.

Wednesday after school JAM will

resume September 9 at

3:45 pm!

We are in need a driver to help get Volunteers from the Middle School to the church every week between 3 and 4 pm. Please contact Janine Blakeborough if you this could work for you. We would love to have several drivers to make sure all weeks are covered and I will assist with the details and logistics.
