Richard Lander Cluster Update
Autumn Term
Sarah Guymer– Richard Lander Primary Release Teacher 20th December 2013
On Thursday 28th November Richard Lander School hosted its annual Primary Key Steps Gym competition. We had
an excellent turn out of 32 gymnasts from 7 of the Richard Lander and the Penair cluster schools entered into either
the School Gymnast or Club Gymnast competition. Each individual gymnast performed the 3 routines; Body
Management, Floor Exercise and Vault as appropriate to their category. Each gymnast was scored individually for each
of the 3 elements and this was then combined to get a total score. The top 4 Club Gymnasts and the top 4 School
gymnasts were then selected to represent the Truro family at the Partnership finals due to be held later in January.
Congratulations to Hannah Barnes (Mount Hawke), Eleysha Penaluna (Chacewater), Katie Dawes(Archbishop Benson),
Jenna Dymond who will be our Club Team. Congratulations also to Izzy John (Devoran), Maddison Pippin, Izzy Ashurst
and Kate McConnell (all Chacewater) who will be our School Team.
In addition to the individuaal aspect of this competition if schools had entered 4 gymnasts in a category they could
then compete for the winning team trophy. Congratulations to Mithian School who retained the Club Team Winners
shield for a second year in a row. Devoran then won the School team winners shield.
Many thanks to all those who attended, the standard of gymnastics was exceptional this year! Good Luck to those
student who have progressed to the finals!!

KS1 Students enjoy
multi-skills mania!
On Friday 20th September (number of

participated in a multi-skills festival at
Richard Lander. All primary students
took part in a carousel of activities led
by our Yr10 sports leaders, who were a
credit to the school as ever. Activities
including targets games, the bean
game, robins nest, agility ladder
practices and many more generic multi-

Feedback received was very positive
and it was clear to see all students big

‘Beat it!’ Archbishop Benson
see the other school off in
Feetbeat Competition!
On Thursday 5th December Richard Lander held a Dance Feet beat competition for Year 3 and 4 students open to
Truro Primary Schools.
Disappointingly only 2 schools attended and stepped up to the challenge of creating their own “wake and shake” style
dance to a music track of their choice. The newcomers Arch bishop Benson were to take on the reigning champions
Shortlanesend!
Following a warm up which was led by Richard Lander sports leaders and dancers Alabama Seymour, Abbie Piper and
Katie Dobson the primary dancers performed their routines which were then judged by Miss Guymer and the Lander
Sports Leaders. Both the standard of the dancing and the creativity of the routines of both the schools partaking
was judged to be most impressive but the eventual winners and new champions were Archbishop Benson following
their spectacular routine to ‘Beat it’ by Michael Jackson. After the competition the 2 schools took it in turns to
teach each other their routines and much fun was had by all in learning these.
Thanks to those who attended and we hope to have a better participation rate next year!
