RICHARD ALLEN PAULY Surrounded by his wife and children, Richard Allen Pauly died on July 7, 2013 after a long and brave battle with cancer. He was the only child born to Benjamin and Marjorie Pauly on December 19, 1942 in Portland, OR. He attended schools in the Portland area, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Portland. Rich was a native Oregonian who loved the Northwest. After spending four years in the Army, he began working for United Parcel Service where he stayed for 35 years, starting in the “Hub” loading packages part time while he went to school. He eventually worked his way into management as a District Controller and National Auditor. He loved working for UPS. Being transferred every four years gave Rich and his family a chance to live in new towns and see the country he loved. Rich was a gentle man, with a great smile, beaming eyes and a quick mind that always showed his humorous side. Golfing, camping and Nascar were his passions. With a group of friends and family, he would go up to High Country where they would all circle their trailers, build a huge fire, ride quads and enjoy the outdoors and he would spend the whole next year talking about what a great time he had. Golfing was a bit frustrating for Rich. He loved the game but hated having to search for the clubs he threw into the brush after missing a shot—but he never missed the chance to go golfing with his UPS friends. Cars were a big part of Rich’s life. He restored a ‘37 Ford from the ground up and won many times when he showed off his pride and joy, with turquoise blue and yellow and orange flames racing down the sides of the car—quite a sight to see. Rich loved his children and had a close relationship with all of them. He was so proud of his grandchildren and loved watching Joshua play baseball, Brandon graduate from high school, Sara graduate from college with a Bachelor’s degree, Brittney’s love for caring for the elderly—and watching them all grow to be contributing members of society. Blessed is the man who has many who call him father. Rich had only one regret and that was that he wasn’t going to live long enough to see Obama be removed from office! Rich is survived by his beloved wife Sandy, children Connie, Michelle and her husband Jerry Schulze, Richard Jr., Tony and his wife Melissa Downing, Khristina and her husband Vince Swanson, Lacey and her husband Tim Oltmann, 13 grandchildren (Sara, Brittney, Robert, Brandon, Joshua, Samuel, Johnathan, Matthew, Alexis, Cash, Barrett, Adam and Jason) and one great-grandchild, sister-in-law Shirley Dambrauckas and her sons Scott and Brett, sister-in-law Tami Tutt and her daughter Amanda, as well as his two best friends Doyle Seale and Larry Schumacher along with numerous friends and extended family. e family extends deep gratitude to the staff of Providence Hospital in Portland, OR, and Community Hospice for their compassionate, loving care for Rich and his family during the last months of his life. A special thanks to Deanna who treated Rich with the utmost respect and kindness. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Landmark Church, 1504 West Main Street, Battle Ground, WA 98604.
