PASTOR’S CORNER Fourteenth Sunday of the Year – Jesus tells us that His yoke is easy and His burden. Yet so often we want to try to carry the load ourselves. We want to do it our own way. Yet, Jesus tells us that if we want true peace and happiness, we have to trust Him to carry the load and to walk beside us. In our prayer this week, let us ask the Holy Spirit for the strength to be able to surrender to the Lord.

Congratulations to Deacon Jerry and Renee Theis on their 50th wedding anniversary! – This weekend Deacon Jerry and Renee will celebrate with their family and friends fifty years of marriage. We are most grateful to them for their witness of the love that Christ has for His Church through the Sacrament of Marriage. We pray that they may have many more years of life together.

Please join Bishop Donald Kettler at the Grasshopper Chapel this Thursday – This Thursday is the final Mass at the Grasshopper Chapel for the Novena for a bountiful harvest. Bishop Kettler will be presiding at the Mass of Thanksgiving to conclude the Novena. You are welcome to join him in this great celebration. Mass will begin at 7:30 PM with a rosary beforehand.

Happy Feast of Saint Benedict! – This Tue, July 11, the monastic communities at Saint John’s Abbey and Saint Benedict’s Monastery celebrate the Feast of Saint Benedict. We hope you've had a chance to meet the priests and deacons who have been assigned by the Bishop to this Catholic Community–Fathers Matthew and Cletus as well as Deacons Larry and Jerry–as well as the monk-priests who are helping out: Father Efrain Rosado, OSB, and Father Nickolas Becker, OSB. We are looking forward to meeting all of you and getting to know you. Please don't be afraid to introduce yourself to us (even multiple times), and we ask your patience as we learn names.

In the past few weeks we have been working with Abbot John and the monastic community to help meet our needs in the RSP CC as well as those in the local area. We had hoped to have Father Efrain full-time, but as he is in much demand as a bi-lingual Spanish and English speaker, we needed to work with the Abbey to help us cover sacramental needs within our Catholic community. Father Efrain will help with our weekend schedule as well as coverage for funerals if needed. Father Nickolas, who teaches full-time at SJU, will preside at one Mass on Sunday mornings. We also were able to have a chaplain assigned to the Assumption Community.

Summertime Reflections – During the month of July we will post some reflections, websites, and great summer books to read. This weekend is an excerpt from a reflection on Summer R.E.S.T. by Becky Eldredge. This summer try making some time intentionally for moments in your day to allow for Restored Energy in Spirit Time (R.E.S.T.). What do I plan on doing to restore my energy in the Spirit’s time? Lingering a bit longer in the morning over my cup of coffee. Reading the extra book that one of my children asks me to read. Reading books just for me that are pure fun and not work-related. Making park-walking and nature-staring part of each day. Sitting outside with my spouse on summer’s longer nights, visiting and sipping a glass of wine. Engaging in hours of funny games my kids concoct. There will be no task lists that drive this R.E.S.T. I am going to trust the Holy Spirit to show me what I need to restore my energy in this summer season. My daily prayer time will guide me to notice the Spirit’s invitations for me. What about you? What might be some rituals of R.E.S.T. that will be part of your summer?

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time – "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." Is there anyone to whom this doesn't apply? Don't we all have to labor at something, whether it be work, school, relationships, household affairs, or personal,

emotional, or mental battles? Aren't we all burdened in some way at some time? Jesus offers us powerful words of consolation in today's Gospel. He promises us rest. He calls all of us to himself, along with the baggage and burdens that we carry, and assures us that we will find relief. Thank God! What a gift for our tired, weary souls.

Saints Peter & Paul Parish Calendar

The body of Christ only functions well when we move together and help each other. Unfortunately, too often parts of the body seek to do their own thing and do not integrate with the other parts. We use our gifts in ways that are only focused on our own gains and our own being. But be mindful, our gifts exist in us to be cultivated and shared with God and his people. In the same manner, with Jesus as the head of this body, he is there for us as well. In Jesus we find our rest and assistance with our burdens. I cannot imagine life without the compassion and aid of our God. If it isn't bad enough that some people fail to lean on their brothers and sisters, some of them fail to ever turn to God. A stewardship way of life seeks to share and integrate with others, especially Jesus. We have been created for community. If we take seriously our discipleship, a true relationship with Jesus always beckons us into community with other believers. Here we are strongest. Here we are the most fruitful. Here we are Christ's body on earth. - Tracy Earl Welliver

Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time – "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." Is there anyone to whom this doesn't apply? Don't we all have to labor at something, whether it be work, school, relationships, household affairs, or personal, emotional, or mental battles? Aren't we all burdened in some way at some time?

Jesus offers us powerful words of consolation in today's Gospel. He promises us rest. He calls all of us to himself, along with the baggage and burdens that we carry, and assures us that we will find relief. Thank God! What a gift for our tired, weary souls.

To be "meek and humble of heart." Jesus' work is to do whatever God the Father wants him to do. As he says elsewhere, "My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work" (Jn 4:34). So, it seems that if we also humbly submit to doing God's work-with Jesus right alongside us as our partner in the task-we will "find rest" for ourselves. So as we labor through the trials of the day, may we bear this in mind, and pray that we may handle them according to the will of God.
