1 Brief Introduction
he Rice milling is the process that helps in removal of hulls and bran’s from
paddy grains to produce quality rice. Rice is rich in genetic diversity with
thousands of varieties grown throughout the world. Rice has been one of
man's most important foods. This unique grain helps sustain two-thirds of the
world's population. It is life for thousands of millions of people. It is deeply
embedded in the cultural heritage of their societies. About 3/4rd of the country’s
rice are produced by large-scale farmers and are consumed locally.
2 Main Objective of the Proposal
The objective is to provide brief details of information together with the feasibility
summary of the proposed Rice Mill at Hiriyala – Kurunegala for potential Investors
who seek moneys’ worth.
3 Initial Investments & Assets’ Valuation
The investment cost for only to setting up the Rice Mill with all the Buildings and
Machinery, was about USD $ 355,000/-.
The land area is about 79 Acres, in which the building area is about 5 Acres.
Present market value of the land is about USD $ 565/- per perch, therefore the
estimated value for the total land is about USD $ 7,141,600/-.
The Rice mill can work at 70% of installed capacity for the first year, 80% for the
second year and 85% from the third onwards. The total manpower requirement is
considered at 60 personnel for various levels of casual labour, Technical &
Supervisory staff and administrative staff, if the mill works at least for 2-shifts per
day.
Note with Care;
The proposed project is expecting, INVESTORS to work jointly/ profit share
basis/ as a joint venture project by dividing profits for 30 -> 70% (30% for the
present Owners and 70% for the Investors) basis.

4 Manufacturing Process
Rice forms are the basic primary processed product obtained from paddy and this is further processed for obtaining various secondary and tertiary products. Step by step wise procedure of processing of paddy to various finished products is illustrated in the chart.
Cleaning of paddy Pre-cleaning of Raw Paddy in tanks Soaking in tank Drain of Water Unloading for drier Drying at 100”C/70”C for 6 Hours Tempering for 24 hrs in day bins Sending to rice mill Steaming in vessel (950C)
5 Global Rice Market
The five major rice exporters (India, Thailand, Viet Nam, Pakistan and the United
States) are likely to account for most of the global stock draw-down, cutting their
inventories by 5.7 Million tons to 41.4 million tons.
International Rice prices have fallen steadily since September 2014, a tendency
that has resulted in the Food and Agriculture Organizations of the United Nations
(FAO) All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) hitting a 4 ½ year low of 219 points in
March 2015.
Production prospects deteriorate, but the 2014 season still set to close with an
above-average global crop. Meanwhile, FAO’s first forecast of global production in
2015 sees world Paddy output staging a 1.1% recovery to 749.8 Million tons (499.9
Million tons, milled basis). The new estimate would imply a 0.8% year-on-year
contraction of output in the region, imputable to a large extent to the two
countries. Indeed, India, Thailand, along with Sri Lanka, are assessed to have
incurred the strongest year-to-year retrenchments, accounting for the bulk of the
region’s 5.3 Million ton production shortfall.

6 Trade, not Aid
Rice is the single most important crop occupying 34% (0.77 /Million ha) of the
total cultivated area in Sri Lanka, on average 560,000 ha are cultivated during
Maha and 310,000 ha during Yala seasons. About 1.8 million farm families are
engaged in paddy cultivation island-wide.
The world needs a new way to fight poverty – one that is not only effective,
but sustainable. We have found a way to re-use a huge Rice Mill to help build
capacity in poor communities in the developing world. The money that
Investors spend at the Mill would stay in the community. But, we’d do more.
Through our establishment, we will help communities learn the new skills
they need to operate/ develop the Mill and by doing so, will help the
community grow.
It could help to fight our country’s poverty. Every money that spend to
purchase our product would be helping a community in this country which
might have a better, brighter future. That’s our idea.
Further, we want to create a chain of community owned by Rice Mills. They would not only give the Rice market whole new level, they’d also be built to the highest market standards.
The profits that come in from the Rice Mill will help the communities grow and create new development projects for the country.
The local communities will need a whole series of new jobs, and we’ll work with them to achieve their goals as well as ours. We can provide vocational training and work experience in the long-run.
What’s your idea for fighting poverty..? A hand-up, not a hand-down. We’ll use this chance of power to help change the country’s’ poor communities that will provide a sustainable source of income and skills to make it work.
That’s our idea. What’s yours..?
