PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
RAY FIELD… May 24, 2017… STUDENT NIGHT
Fourth student night of the 2017 season, and the second
washout due to weather. We have a great instructor with a
trainer ready to fly. We have a runway in excellent condi-
tion. Look at the picture… what’s missing? Students! So
far we have no students. Spread the word, encourage any-
one who shows an interest, invite them to come to student
night.
SECOND THOUGHT… Students of course take priori-
ty, but remember regular flying is also available, so come
out to Ray Field Wednesday evenings.

MEMORIAL WEEKEND FLYING
Despite threats of bad weather, the Saturday of Memori-
al Day Weekend had some great flying, and a good number
of Ribcrackers ready to get their season underway.
I just got this from Doc a couple days ago. No doubt the FAA will probably appeal, and or pressure congress to change the over-all law, but for now: John
Is This The End of Meaningless Hobby FAA Registration?
John A. Taylor, and RCGroups member, made all of us aware of a case he filed on March 14th, 2017, challenging the FAA's Small Unmanned Aircraft Registration. Tay-lor, a Maryland attorney, successfully argued that section 336 of the FAA Moderniza-tion and Reform Act of 2012 expressly prohibits any further regulation, including reg-istration, of model aircraft. Today, the Federal Appeals Court of the District of Columbia rules that drone and hobby model aircraft registration did violate the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 (section 336), and rendered it void. This is a huge victory for hobby model aircraft pilots that were forced to comply with FAA regulations or face stiff penalties. Is this the end of this dark chapter in model aviation? One would hope, but given the FAA propensity of fighting hobby model aircraft and their pilots, the Federal Avia-tion Administration may retaliate in some manner; let's hope that doesn't happen. But for now, join us in celebrating a David versus Goliath-style victory for model aviation! CLICK HERE for the RCGroups thread started by John A. Taylor The official ruling the the Federal Appeals Court of the District of Columbia
Clearly, the 2017 Flying season is upon us. It has been for some time, but now is the time to do the necessary
planning and preparations to make 2017 the best season ever! The way to do that is to show up, and take part in the
next meeting, that will take place at Ray Field on Monday June 5th, at 7:00 pm. Be there, make your voice heard,
share your ideas, and volunteer your services, that’s how things get done! See you there!
