The Link Between EXPLORE and PLAN and the ACT
This Evening We Will:– Explain how the Explore, Plan build toward
the ACT and we will look at the core components of the test.
– Review the student score report.
– Discuss how you can use Explore/Plan results to better prepare your student for the ACT and make curricular decisions.

Through collaborative research with postsecondary institutions nationwide, ACT has established
the following college readiness benchmarks*:
* Minimum score needed on an ACT subject-area test to indicate a 50% chance of obtaining a B or higher or a 75% chance of obtaining
a C or higher in the corresponding credit-bearing college course.
What’s so important about the
EXPLORE & PLAN?
Current Testing Pattern
• 8th Explore (1-25)
• 9th Explore (1-25)
• 10th Plan (1-32)
• 11th ACT/MME (1-36)
• Allows for one year’s measurement of growth and time for interventions.

• One year’s measurement of growth, but more time for interventions.
Middle School: Strengthening the Connection
• The 1-25 score measured by the Explore are all standards covered in Elementary and Middle School.
• The District is now shifting curriculum alignment to the ACT College Readiness Standards (rather than the MEAP).
• Our MSs are being in-serviced on the Standards and the State is moving to the National Core Standards which are ACT based.
What does this look like?
• The ACT Math standards were broken down by GLCEs and HSCEs. On the next slide, the yellow highlighted standards are actually GLCEs which are found in the Math portion of the ACT.
MEAP and MME
RCS Elementary and Middle Schools have celebrated incredibly high success rates on the MEAP…– What happens when those
“successful” students take the Explore, Plan and ACT?
– A 40% is considered proficient on the MEAP.
MEAP vs. MME
• Let’s track on student scores from the MEAP to the MME. – Are the students labeled as
“proficient” on the MEAP meeting the ACT College Readiness Standards?
– It’s all about the cut score!
