October serves as a time for renewal and celebrations for
a number of faith groups including Islamic Heritage
Month, Diwali and Sukkot. It also marks the passage
through the seasons, as we are reminded by
Thanksgiving. We hope that everyone had taken some
time to enjoy the changing season and to celebrate with family and loved
ones.
As a school, we continue to focus on Student Achievement, Equity
and Well Being as we work to improve student achievement and provide
excellent programs and intervention strategies that enable all our
students to achieve success. We continue to use ‘Student Census’ and other
data to examine both the strength and needs of our programs; allowing us
to refine our teaching practice.
Safety in our school remains a priority and creating a positive school
culture, caring for our students and supporting teachers continues to be in
the forefront of our attention. Our staff and students attended Neglect and
Abuse P.D. with our school Social worker and safety presentations with our
Police Liaison officer where they talked about: community helpers; traffic
safety; safety rules at home; when to call 911; internet safety; and bullying
and criminal offences. We thank you for helping us to maintain an effective
Safe Arrival and we remind you to keep calling the school when your child is
absent as well as to sign your child in or out if you have appointments
throughout the day. Thank you for supporting our students’ safety and well-
being. Congratulations to Mrs. Malcolm and her family on the birth of baby
boy Aleem, born October 12th at 4:46a.m. Baby and mom are doing well!
Finally, we want to thank the Bridlewood community for making
our ‘Meet the Teacher Night’ and Pizza dinner a success. It was a pleasure to
see so many families at our event. We want to remind you that the
Fall Progress Reports will be sent home on Monday November 12th and that
parent - teacher interviews have been scheduled for Thursday November
15th in the evening and Friday, November 16th in the morning.
We are excited about this school year and are looking to celebrate
many wonderful milestones with our entire Bridlewood Commu-
nity.

ny league championships, finish-
ing first place after having started
the playoffs at the bottom of their
division! Kai and fellow team-
mates, are extremely proud of
their teamwork and how persever-
ance and hard work lead to
amazing results.
Congratulations to Samuel

standing in Ontario. Samuel
won the 50m backstroke in

Mrs. Belanger was also happy to
share her accomplishments with
us! Baby Emily enjoyed her first
visit to our school!
In Orff class, students work on singing, dancing and playing instruments, using games and dra-
matic elements. Right now, among other things, they are working on a 200 year old counting
game with instrumental accompaniment!
Kids in the Ukulele club are learning to use the instrument to create melodies and to accompany
singing. They are learning chords and building knowledge as they progress through song material.

From “Kids In the Know”
1. Trick-or-Treating Plan
Encourage students to plan their trick-or-treating route out with their parent/guardian.
For older students who may be trick-or-treating without an adult, remind them to stick to the route they planned out and avoid isolated areas and shortcuts, instead staying in familiar are-as on well-lit streets where others are trick-or-treating. Have them identify safe adults within their neighbourhood who they can go to for help (e.g., a mother who is accompanying chil-dren, safe adults they know who live on their planned route).
2. Buddy System
Teach young children about the buddy system. For children in Grade 2 or lower a safe buddy is someone who is old enough to supervise them (12+). Teach older kids to stick together while trick-or-treating – there is safety in numbers!
3. Instincts
Remind children of all ages to pay attention to their surroundings and to trust their instincts. Discuss safe ways to respond to a situation where they feel afraid or uncomfortable. These may include getting help from their buddy, calling a parent/guardian or going to a safe neigh-bour. Practice what-if scenarios with students.
4. Assertiveness
Teach children of all ages to set clear boundaries about personal limits. They should never go inside a home while trick-or-treating without checking with their parent/guardian first. If someone approaches them on the street and asks them to go somewhere with them, re-mind them not to go, run away and tell a safe adult what happened. Regardless of the rea-son, they should never go anywhere with anyone without checking with the adult who is in charge of them.
5. Supervision
When trick-or-treating, young children should be accompanied by an adult or someone 12+ who their parent/guardian assigns to supervise them. Teach young children to stay where they are and call out to their parent/guardian if they become separated while trick-or-treating.
For older students who are trick-or-treating without an adult, encourage them to set a time with their parent/guardian when they will be home and to check in with them throughout the evening. Remind students to always check in before changing their plans or route.
X Country Events Mr. Skicos and I would like to congratulate all of those who par-
ticipated in yesterday's cross country meet at Earl Bales. But
more importantly, we want to thank all of you for the work you
put into preparing for it - for the early mornings, the wet morn-
ings, the cold and sometimes hot mornings, for being tired, hun-
gry and sweaty before your school day even begins. You can't
just show up and decide to race on a whim...dedication, hard
work and commitment are required. By: Ms. Tessier

International Walk to School Day is a global celebration that began in 1997 as a one day event. Today, stu-dents in more than 40 countries around the word participate by walking and biking to school. Last April, Trustees approved a motion to recognize October 7th as International Walk to School Day in TDSB, calling it an event to be "celebrated system-wide as a sym-bol of the importance of active, safe and sustainable transportation.” October 7th marked the kick-off for International Walk to School Day with an attempt to create a lasting focus on physical activity, safety and walkable communities. To find out more about Walk to School initiatives, please visit walkbiketoschool.org. For information on how to conduct a walk program at your school, see KidsWalk-to-School: A guide to promote walking to school
SAFETY PATROLLERS
Beyblade Club is Coming!
The safety patrollers were trained by police officer Claudia. We are expected to cover 3 times
a day. In the morning, when the first bell rings, we show up for duty, then we cover lunch
time and later we come out at the end of the day. Cross walk duty has to prevent any acci-
dents from happening to anyone. The parking lot duty is to mainly stop anyone who is not on
our staff from coming into the parking lot. Even though safety patrollers are not here to di-
rect traffic, this is how we keep Bridlewood students safe. By: Le’ Seana, Owen & Marcus
Listen up Bridlewood, we are starting a Beyblade club. Keep an eye out for posters
posted around the school to make people aware of the club. Here is what you need
to know:
The club will be held every Wednesday during afternoon recess in room 33.
The club will be supervised by Mrs. Arhitektonidis and Mr. Kenno.
The club requires you to have your own Beyblades as no one can just come in to
watch if they do not have their own Beyblade.
The Best part is:
The Club is open to all the grades and there is no limit to
the number of participants.

ECO club has been working on a marker eater bin to house old pens, markers, highlight-
ers and mechanical pencils. This bin will be placed by the first floor photocopier. Please
feel free to drop off your used items. The ECO club will then make sure they are recycled
properly. By: Mrs. Hough & Mr. Naumann
