Potentate Message

Nobles,

We all wear a fez, and in the large letters it reads CRESCENT,

that which ties us together. We all share one common goal,

Shriners Hospital and the work we do for the children.

We all know, that one key for success in an organization the

size of ours is, communication. Today we have the best

communications than ever before in history. Our predecessors

would be jealous! Everyone has a telephone, most have

computers, in essence, we never have to speak in person again.

However this makes it easy to lose connection with the human

spirit. In the past few months I have had the great honor and

pleasure to visit various clubs and units, and very pleased to see

the pride each member takes in the work they do. If given the

opportunity, I encourage each and every person reading this to

the visit clubs and units of Crescent, and stay connected to

everything CRESCENT.

I would like to take this opportunity to quote Illustrious

Potentate Richard Waggoner, “It’s time for every Shriner to ask

himself the question: What can I do for the Shrine.” Your

answer should be “Stay united toward the common goal.”

Yours in Faith, Vincent Colasanti Illustrious Potentate

Recorder Ramblings

Spring has sprung! I opened this new spring season by attending the Recorder's Seminar in San Diego. Ninety Recorders from around the nation were in attendance along with Past Imperial Potentate and Recorder Jack H. Jones and Imperial Potentate Michael C. Severe. There were seminars on Insurance, computerized membership program and Shriner's Village website. A lot of helpful information was shared by the recorders there. Spring sprucing up has been done here at our Shrine by recasting our building mortgage, bringing down our monthly payment. Now that the days are longer and brighter you can get more active with your units. If you aren't a member of a unit or club, please use the form in the Rasul to get information on one. Don't forget to come out to the meetings, Friday night socials and other activities going on at our Shrine. Have a wonderful spring season and I look forward to seeing you all out and about. There are 453 Nobles who have not paid there dues for this year if you are one of them please send so we can send you your dues card. RICHARD W. BREWSTER, PP Recorder

Greetings Hackers and Whackers; If this current weather is any indication of the year to come, it will be a GREAT season! As the younger generation sometimes says, "I'M STOKED"! I'd like to do a preseason tune-up on March 28th (Wed), instead of the 25th (Sunday), as mentioned in a prior communication. This date is highly dependent on the weather, and we should know at least a week in advance if it will be a go. Location will be Hillsborough CC. From there, looking forward to opening our official season on April 18th at Rancocas Country Club. Next up after that is Avalon CC on May 16th where we'll be greeted to Cape May by Illustrious Sir Vincent Colasanti! So, until our next round, "hit'em long and straight".

Motor Units

The March meeting of our unit had good attendance showing the anticipation of warmer weather for Motorcycle activities coming up.

New summer riding shirts have been purchased to supplement our uniforms during hot weather. Dave Saunders and Ralph Wooden passed the maroon and white golf style shirts out to the attending members. They look great and will be a welcome addition to our unit.

Nick Marino (Parade Coordinator) has expressed that he is waiting to hear from our Spring lineup of communities that participate. The following usually start our Spring Parades Lancaster, Pa., Penndel, Pa., Hulmeville, Pa., Allentown, NJ and New Egypt, NJ.

Our unit likes to Parade so if there are any Nobles of our Shrine who know of a town or function which would enjoy having our unit in their parade, please contact any Motorcycle Patrol member or contact Crescent Shrine Center for infor-mation.

See you at the next Friday night dinner social. Bob Hullfish

Motor Corps. Mini Car Unit

Ed Pearson, Secretary

March 19, 2012

The Motor Corps. Mini Car Unit

participated in the annual Saint

Patrick’s Day Parade in Seaside

Heights, NJ on March 10th. This is one

of our favorite events each the year

and is a great way to start our parade

schedule. Even though the weather

was chillier than the last couple years, the crowd was enthusiastic as ever

and gave us a good reception. One tradition that has evolved at this event

is a post parade picnic at Maryann Konfederak’s house. Again this year,

good food and fellowship was enjoyed by all.

The parade schedule for 2012 is starting to take shape. We will be

doing several repeat performances at some of our favorite parades and

adding others to the schedule. Our fleet of mini cars is always expanding

and now totals 10 cars, which presents interesting options for the Unit. We

can take all the cars to one parade and really make an impression

proceeding down the street and with our formations. Alternatively, this

year at the major holidays we will be able to split the Unit and send half of

the cars to one parade and the other half to another parade when parades

are at the same time. We are anxiously anticipating the Memorial Day and

July 4th parade schedule.

Pictured above is Vince Etzel’s car, one of two new cars added to

the fleet over the winter. Vince’s car has been customized into a Paddy

Wagon by Captain Jim Thompson, representing Vince’s years with the NJ

State Police. It took Jim about 60 hours to complete the job. We are

fortunate to have such skilled members as Jim and President Red Hieber in

our Unit.

We are always looking for additional members and extend an

invitation to our newest nobles from the March 18 Ceremonial to check us

out. You do not have to own a car to be a member. Our goal is to have a

membership of two non-car owners for every car in the fleet. This way we

will have sufficient backup drivers when owners are unable to make it to a

parade. Also, we will have members available to drive either or both trucks

with our trailers in the parades. We do have inventory available for

purchase, too. Any noble interested in joining should contact a member of

the Unit or the Shrine office to express your interest. Also, you may come

by our room on any Units’ night to talk to us and get more information.

Please see our pictures on the Unit’s web page of the Crescent Shrine web site.

Burlington County Shrine Club

The picture on the next page was taken when the Burlington County Shrine Club presented a check for $25,000 from our Golf Outing to the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital in February. Those attending included Jim Umlauf, a Crescent Associate Hospital Board Member; John Cogan, Treasurer; Wayne Farren, Golf Chairman; Frank Mayo, Hospital Board Chairman, Crescent Noble and member of BCSC; Henry Haughey, Chief Rabban and BCSC member; Charlie Blinn, Secretary and Ed Pearson, President.

The big date to remember is Monday, June 11, 2012, for the Burlington County Shrine Club’s Annual Golf Outing at beautiful Riverton Country Club. This is the Club’s largest fundraiser, so we are looking for golfers and all levels of sponsors. If you don’t golf, you can still enjoy an open bar, steak dinner, watch the helicopters put on an exciting flying display before doing the impressive ball drop and enjoy a post dinner speaker for only $75.00. The ball drop tickets and pamphlets will be mailed soon to all members of BCSC. Please see any member to purchase your ball drop tickets. The prizes are $1,000, $500 and $250 for the three balls landing closest to the hole. Please look elsewhere in this Rasul for information about the Outing.

On February 25th, thirty of us spent the day touring the PA Grand

Lodge and Shriners Hospital. Thanks are extended to Chief Rabban Henry Haughey for driving the bus and demonstrating his skills through the narrow openings in Chinatown. The tours of both facilities were excellent and very informative. Burlington County Shrine Club held its first meeting at Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse on Rte. 541, Westampton, with the largest crowd in a long time. I want to thank all who attended the meeting at our new location. Joe Laufer, Burlington County Historian, gave an informative talk on several historical firsts held by Burlington County. We still have room for more – new members as well as existing members. Our next regular meeting will be April 4th when the speaker will be Wrightstown Mayor Tom Harper, who will speak about the joint military base and its impact on Burlington County. All Shriners, Masons and their ladies are welcome to these first Wednesday of the month meetings. Social time begins at 6pm and dinner at 7pm. The cost of dinner is $20.00 (tax & tip included). Finally, welcome to the new Nobles of Crescent Shrine. We invite you to come to our meetings and enjoy the fraternal fellowship of our Club. It is a good relaxed way to meet other Nobles and ask about the many activities available to Nobles of the Crescent Shrine. Edward Marren, 1st Vice President

Nobles, I would like to share some news with you about our finances

concerning our mortgage. We have taken $400,000 from our investments

and applied it to the principal, bringing the mortgage down to $1.6

million. By doing this we have lowered our percentage rate to 5%. The

savings will bring us closer to our budget. It does, however, leave us a

little short in our investments. Therefore, I am asking you to participate

in our MEGA 50/50. We will try to raise much needed revenue. If we

can sell all of our tickets by December 20th, 2012 we will be able to make

the winning ticket worth $50,000 and that much for Crescent Shrine!

The tickets are $100 each and we will need help selling them, so I am

counting on you to help. We can also buy them on time so a little amount

per month can get you in the pool.

Thank you in advance,
