On Thursday, Year 4 sneaked

out of school in an English

lesson and investigated some

strange rumours that had been

flying about regarding flying

objects in the sky near Revoe

park. They collected a wealth

of evidence which is displayed on the top corridor. Mr Harrison

has put the children into contact with some dragon experts who

will hopefully be able to help us... More news to follow next

week.

Smilies this week and last week—Thank you, children, for your amazing Attitude, Conduct and Effort. You’re ACE!

responsible for electing this child democratically and so far has proved a big

success with the children!

School Funding – You will have no doubt heard or seen in the media that schools are extremely concerned about direct cuts to school funding. Revoe Learning Academy is no exception and we are equally worried about the impact of the cuts. We will continue to lobby for improved funding and we will continue to bid for special funding such as building funds to try to maintain and develop our school and its resources. Please see the letter below which is being sent out by many schools and academies across England.

Dear Parent, Carer or Guardian,

You may have seen a number of stories and worrying headlines in the news around school funding. We felt it important that we let you know, as far as we are able to at this stage, how this will affect our Academy.

School and academy budgets across the country have been under pressure for some time. RLA is not alone. The National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) has shown that more than half of school leaders felt that their budget would be untenable by 2018/19. The National Audit Office estimate a £3 billion real terms cut across all schools and academies!

Recent headlines have been caused by a proposed new funding formula, designed to create a fairer allocation. However, with increasing costs placed onto all schools and academies, the new formula will not bring the benefits that we had hoped to see. The School Cuts website, analysing DfE data, projects that schools in our local authority will lose approximately £193,000 in total by 2019 (see schoolcuts.org.uk for more details) .

We will work really hard to ensure that cuts have the least impact on the children. However, rising costs and a frozen budget mean that tough decisions will have to be taken. We cannot guarantee that such cuts will not impact on teaching, despite doing our absolute upmost to prevent this.

Please be assured that we will take the utmost care with budgets, to ensure all the money we have is spent effectively on your children. We are also letting the local authority and government know just how serious the funding crisis has become.

We promise to let you know in plenty of time if our budget means that we’ll have to take a significant decision on staffing, our environment or on the activities and curriculum which RLA currently offers.

Yours sincerely,

Please understand that this is not me simply whinging. I fully appreciate that these times of austerity are hitting everyone, but cuts to education are very likely to affect all of our children. These cuts and the rises in costs to school are real and will have a dramatic impact on the education that schools and academies can offer. Where you can, try to encourage your MPs to challenge this very worrying situation.
