why we do what we doHealth. The mere definition is broad
and ambiguous. There is mental health, physical health, healthy choices, healthy foods, healthy relationships… the list is endless. For me, the term took on a world I had never dreamt of exploring. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and after 17 surgeries and a plethora of medications, I was out of traditional options. Instead of giving me hope, the doctors gave me a death sentence. I wanted to take control of my own health. But how? I explored everything, and then I read about treating Crohn’s with cannabis. I figured it couldn’t be worse than death so in March 2014, my wife and I closed our lifestyle magazine in Naples and moved to Colorado to prolong, or even save, my life.
Within a few weeks of trying my first cannabis-infused edible and getting on a cannabis regime, I could feel a world of difference. My symptoms subsided, I had energy, I gained back the weight I lost, and I felt really really good – for the first time in years. Never did I imagine that cannabis would do for me what big-pharma could not. I got my life back. Over the next three years, not only did my quality of life improve substantially, but I took every opportunity to educate myself about the cannabis plant that enabled it to happen. I learned the how and why behind what made cannabis work for my Crohn’s. Through it all though, I wanted to come back to Florida, but the medicine I needed was still illegal. Then Amendment Two passed. Finally home in the city I love so much, we are now back to our magazine and publishing roots and educating people about the benefits of medical cannabis and why it works so well for many conditions. Please join us on this journey and together, we can all learn how to take control of our own health.
