The CENTRAL MARKETS project aims to enhance traditional markets by improving their ma-nagement systems since these are places for commercial distribution and with a strong social impact, producing positive effects in terms of urban development and environmental sustainability.

The project activities concentrate on the development of concepts and plans which will enable stakeholders to organise, coordinate and implement long term interventions on market places. Whereas the development of joint solutions will take into account four basic key elements: inte-gration of trade services and retail framework policies, cooperation among relevant stakehol-ders, revitalisation of markets and related urban or regional areas, network of partner cities and regions benefiting from mutual learning principles.

The CENTRAL MARKETS project will thus improve markets attractiveness in eight target ci-ties/regions by developing new and innovative market revitalisation strategies in order to rein-force and balance the relationship between city/regions and markets.
