Revising English

Practise writing out a range of sentences about something that interests you. Try to use simple, compound and complex sentences!

Once you’ve written a piece of description, label all of the linguistic features that you’ve used!

Read non-fiction and fictional texts that are about similar topics. Consider PALL (Purpose, Audience, Language and Layout).

As Art is a practical subject

your timed test will involve

drawing from observation.Art

Art

• Zoom into an area of the still life / object

• Look carefully at the shapes that you see

• Draw lightly, transferring the shapes and structures you are looking at – fill the page

• Start to look for the light and the dark

• Vary the pressure of your pencil to create the ‘tones’ you see

• Aim for 4 ‘tones’ – black, dark grey, light grey & white

• Make your drawing look 3D by using directional shading – you are giving it ‘form’.

Hints and Tips

Drawing is making a mark.

Making marks is what creates an image.

You are not a camera but an Artist we see and draw the world as individuals

Ideas for Revision

Techniques

MFL

Organise your revision into 30 minute

sessions with 5 minutes breaks. You will

able to maintain a high level of recall of

material memorised, while your level of

understanding will continue to rise.

Create mind maps/spider diagrams.Create cue cards or flash cards

– include bullet points of

important information OR a

question on one side and answer

on the other to test yourself.

Create a checklist of what you

need to be able to do, then

after revising write a few

sentences next to each point

to prove that they can do it.

Use the internet

(e.g. www.bbc.co.uk/schools/bitesize

and www.linguascope.co.uk and other

interactive websites.

Summarising Tips: Make use of

your own specially created

headings and subheadings in your

revision notes.

Remember to use the resources on the

VLE. There are resources in each Module

folder as well as separate resources in the

grammar folder.

Record key phrases and vocabulary

on your mobile phone or using

software such as Audacity. You can

then listen back to revise the

vocabulary .

Refer to the grammar boxes and grammar sections

at the end of each module and at the back of your

textbook.

Revise the vocabulary in your exercise book

as well as in the end of module sections and

the back of your textbook.

Use colour and high-lighter pens

to make important information

stand out.

Make sure that you focus on learning the key verbs.

Remember that to achieve a Level 4 you need to be

able to use one tense. For a Level 5 you need to be

able to use two tenses. For a Level 6 you need to

be able to use three tenses.

Use techniques such as

‘Look, cover, write and check’ to

help you learn the spellings of

key vocabulary and verbs
