Location: Oshikango, Ohangwena Region, NamibiaBudget: US$36.6 million (N$500 million)Employment: 1,500 direct jobs and 7,500+ indirect jobsCommissioning: 2018Management: Andreas MathiasGroot Silica Mining (Pty) Ltd (Co.Reg.No.: 2016/0399), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Groot Systems, has been formed to exclusively supply world's class silica sand products to Groot Glass factories in Tses.The vision for Groot Silica is to produce, market and sell world-class quality silica sand for the glass as well as ceramics, filtration, foundry, agrochemicals, oil and gas industry.Groot Silica is becoming one of the world's leading mining for the commercial silica sand used in the glass, oil and gas industry, and in a wide range of industrial applications with an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tons per year for the exclusive supplying of silica sand to Groot Glass and exports the surplus to the world's markets.

TechnologyGroot Glass is installing a technology with the capacity of producing 250 MT per day of glass with two furnaces, five production lines and equipment designed to produce glass containers from 88ml to 1,000ml, in different sizes and in flint and colored glass bottles for the beverage and food industry, soft drinks and juices as well as for the pharmaceutical industry, in order to best serve our local and regional markets of SADC.

MarketCurrently, only a few countries in Southern Africa are involved in glass manufacturing, and Groot Glass expects to produce quality glass products for the local market in Namibia and for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) markets.

TechnologyGroot Silica Mining is installing a technology with the capacity to produce more than 1.5 million tons per year of quality silica sand for the industrial use.

MarketGroot Silica seeks to become Southern Africa's largest silica sand mining and processing for the varieties of industries use, not only to meet the requirements to supply quality silica sand to Groot Glass, but to produce and sell its silica sand products to the local market and the SADC markets.

Groot Steel seeks to become the world's largest vertically integrated manufacturing hub for a wide range of flat, short and long steel products as well as value-added steel sheet and tubular products for the automotive, appliance, container, industrial machinery, construction, and oil and gas industries around the world.

TechnologyGroot Steel is installing an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Quantum for the first Melt Shop and Rolling Mill to produce 750,000 tons per year of rebars and billets. EAF Quantum delivers minimum conversion costs, maximized output, and environmental compliance. Feeding the Melt Shop with 100% scrap metals, the EAF Quantum offers the most convenience and friendly steelmaking.

Market

In Southern Africa, only a few countries are engaged in steelmaking. Hence Groot Steel focuses on producing quality steel; long, short and flat for the local and SADC markets.
