Radiation

Radiation is the transfer of heat from the sun.

Question 1

What type of heat is transferred from the sun?

Conduction

• Conduction is the transfer of heat from touching. If I touch the hot grill, I get burned because the heat is conducted into my hand.

Question 2

If I pick up something that is hot, what type of energy transfer just happened?

Third Class Lever

Third class levers

Question 3

Name 3 third class levers?

2nd Class levers

• 2nd Class levers

Question 4

• Name 3 (2nd class levers)

1st Class Levers

• 1st Class Levers

Question 5

• Name 3 (1st class levers)

Effort Force

• Less effort force is required with the bigger screwdriver than the smallest screwdriver.

Question 6

Which Screwdriver requires less effort force (is easier to get the screw out)?

Kinetic Energy

• When things bounce,, some of the kinetic energy is converted to heat.

Question 7

• If you drop a soccer ball from the roof, why does it not bounce all the way back up to the roof?

Conclusion

• If I said that no matter what, you would get an 80 in math class, no matter how much you studied for the tests, an observation that would weaken the conclusion is you noticing your report card said you got a 50 in math

Question 8

• If I said that no matter what you buy, you will end up spending 100 dollars at Walmart every time you go, what is one observation that could weaken this conclusion?

Mechanical Advantage

• Effort force (amount of effort you put in)

• mechanical advantage (MA) is the factor by which a mechanism multiplies the force put into it

• If you put in an effort force of 10 N and end up lifting a 150N, then your effort force is 15.

Question 9

• If you put in 300N to lift a pulley with a 5m rope to lift a 900N piano 3 meters, what is your mechanical advantage?

Warm-blooded animals• Warm-blooded animals

(Endotherm's) make their own heat.

Question 10

• Name 3 warm-blooded animals?

Cold blooded animals

• Cold blooded animals (Ectotherms) get their warmth from the environment.

Question 11

1. Name 3 cold blooded animals

Force

• Effort force in 1st class levers are reduced when levers have longer handles.

Question 12

• Which one of the scissors is it easier to cut something with?

Convection

• When the air or water is cold, things do not move around so much in it. When the water is warm, the hot chocolate dissolves much easier and faster.

Question 13

• How can you speed up things dissolving in a liquid or a gas. How can you slow it down.?

Condensation

• The water that shows up on windows is condensation.

Question 24

• When you see water on a window, names 2 ways it could have gotten there.

Dehydration

• Dehydration is very serious. A person that has dehydration can easily pass out and have to be taken to the hospital. Their heartbeat can go up, they can be dizzy, and out of breath.

Question 25

1. What are some of the symptoms of dehydration?

Sunburn

• Some people can easily get a sunburn all year long. It does not have to be a hot day or a sunny day.

Question 26

1. How can you avoid getting a sunburn and what exactly is the energy called that comes from the sun?

Water

• Water is extremely important on the Earth. Water reduces heat. You sweat so that your body gets cooled off.

Question 27

• Why is water important? If you had a lot of water (like in the ocean), is ti important?

Energy Transfer

• Energy always goes from Hot to Low.

• When you hold ice, your hand becomes cold since the heat from your hand is sucked out of your hand and goes into the ice (which quickly melts)

Mass

• Sponges can absorb water and gain temporary mass since when you weight the sponge after it soaks up water, you really are weighing the sponge and the water.

Mechanical Advantage

• When you are trying to find the mechanical advantage of pulleys, you simply count the strings.
