PRESENTATION FISA S.A. and IFEMA, the largest trade fair operators in Chile and Spain respectively, have struck a deal to organize GENERA Latinoamérica, the International Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies Fair, in its first edition held from 16 to 18 October at Espacio Riesco in Santiago de Chile. GENERA Latinoamérica represents a step forward in the international growth of the GENERA brand, Spain's leading trade fair in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency, which is the model for the new fair in Chile. The new fair will feature representation from sectors related with biofuels, biomass and waste, cogeneration, energy efficiency, geothermal energy, wind energy, water, hydrogen and fuel cells, mobility, energy services, solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, solar thermoelectric and other energies. Other opportunities presented by GENERA Latinoamérica are linked to the fact that it is to be held simultaneously with Expo AmbientAL, the Technological Solutions for the Environment Fair, organized by FISA with the backing of the Chilean Ministry of the Environment; AEPA, the Association of Businesses and Professionals for the Environment; and CPL, the National Council for Clean Production. This will be the tenth edition of the fair, a leading event in the Latin American sector. There will also be two other events organized by FISA: Aguatech, focusing on water management and treatment for domestic, industrial and health service use, and Educambiente, aimed at education and promoting environmental policies. All four events being held at the same time, with their complementary content and significant synergies, will make for a major macro-event that will attract a wide range of professionals, as well as creating a forum for sector communications, discussing the politics, economics and social issues in Latin America, while consolidating Chile's leading environmental role in the region.

GENERA Latinoamérica: positive experience for the

Spanish renewables and energy efficiency sector

ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones and sector associations present at the

fair rated highly the fair’s first edition

Madrid, 13 November 2013.- GENERA Latinoamérica closed its doors on 18

October. Held at Espacio Riesco in Santiago, Chile, this was the second project

jointly organised by IFEMA and FISA, which have teamed up to develop

professional trade fairs for thriving sectors in Latin America. Thirteen Spanish

companies were present at the fair along with ICEX España Exportación e

Inversiones, IDAE, the Spanish institute for diversification and energy saving,

and the country’s leading sector associations. Organised within the

framework of AmbientAL, as part of Latin American Environment Week, the

fair was held at the same time as Expo Recicla and EducAmbiente which

together attracted over 150 companies and 5,832 trade visitors.

The Spanish companies present at GENERA Latinoamérica were delighted

with the opportunity the fair offered to expand abroad. They also believe Chile

offers great potential for companies in the renewables and energy efficiency

sector.

ICEX rated their participation particularly highly, noting that “GENERA

Latinoamérica has helped uncover the technological potential of Spanish companies

and the possibilities of collaborating in new opportunities offered in Chile by making

the country’s energy model more sustainable and gradually introducing some 500

MW a year of non-conventional renewable energies into the energy mix by 2025”. The

association also stated “the companies working in the energy efficiency field have a

lot of work ahead of them as the country’s regulatory framework has set ambitious

objectives for 2020. Spain has a proven track record in both areas and we have seen this

at the fair”. ICEX also noted that the technical seminar organised by the

Spanish Embassy’s Economic and Trade Office was well received, with some

70 companies from the renewables and energy efficiency sectors attending.

This provided Spanish companies with access to those authorities responsible

for Chile’s renewable and energy efficiency policies, making the meeting an

invaluable exercise in networking in a public-private framework.

In sum, according to ICEX “the Spanish economy and high-tech companies are

expanding overseas, exporting goods and services. They are also investing directly

abroad and participating in international tenders, and IFEMA is helping by exporting

the GENERA brand and fair model to the Chilean market".

For José Donoso, General Manager of UNEF, the Spanish photovoltaic union,

“the fair offered the Spanish photovoltaic sector an excellent opportunity to

share experiences, projects and understand the idiosyncrasies of the market in

Chile and worldwide. The Spanish companies were able to display their

extensive knowledge of the solar sector and offer extremely high added value

solutions. Genera Latinoamérica has shown that Spanish companies are

extremely interested in entering more attractive and reliable markets in order

to grow their business”.

Alberto Ceña, advisor at AEE’s technical department (the Spanish wind

business association), meanwhile highlighted the technical workshop on

photovoltaic generation held on 17 October where “the Spanish companies were

able to strengthen ties with the Chilean market at the seminar which was part of the

ICEX-AEE Sector Plan on integrating renewables in the country’s energy mix. The

event showed the challenges and benefits of renewables in Chile and how Spain has

assumed the major integration challenges in the network. Chile is about to burst onto

the renewables stage after many years of hard work, mainly by Spanish companies.

These workshops were a continuation of the Inverse Mission organised by AEE in

March”.

For Antonio López Navas, Head of A3e, the Association of Energy Efficiency

Companies, “Genera LATAM has been a positive experience. We have represented

the Spanish energy efficiency sector and helped out many Spanish companies already

in Chile or thinking about setting up business there. We have also extended our

cooperation agreement with ANESCO Chile, to train up technicians. In terms of

energy efficiency, Chile is undoubtedly the best country from which to enter the Latin

American market. The countries here are greatly dependent on energy and prices are

high and variable. Economies are growing at 5%, unemployment is low and the

countries need knowledgeable technicians and companies with experience”.

AmbientAL was opened by the country’s Environment Minister, María Ignacia

Benítez, who highlighted the benefits of the week-long events to Chile’s

sustainable development and expressed the government’s interest in

promoting and supporting the fair which she defined as “the country’s most

important event in terms of environmental technologies which help develop cleaner

processes”.
