Happy Birthday to Father John Kha Tran on March 26th. May you have a wonderful and blessed birthday!

LIGHT “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light” (Ephesians 5:14). We are at the midpoint of our Lenten journey of conversion. As always, God never gives up on us, especially those who have “fallen asleep” along the road to conversion. The most powerful stories of conversion are proclaimed during these final weeks of Lent. They have the power to shake us out of our sleep. Today’s Gospel story of the healing of the man born blind exposes the real blindness in the time of Christ—the blindness of the self-righteous reli-gious leaders. In a few weeks, at the Easter Vigil, the Church will proclaim “Christ our Light” as the paschal candle is carried into darkened churches throughout the world. May the dark-ness of sin that still pervades our lives, communities, and world, be dispelled by the Christ who comes to bring sight to the blind and light to the world. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston Prayer in the Time of the Coronavirus

Comfort us, O Lord, for we are like your disciples on the storm-tossed seas,

Unsettled by what lies ahead. We turn to You, our Healer and Guide,

To still our hearts in our time of need and hear our prayer: Heal those who are sick with the coronavirus and protect the elderly and most vulnerable. Give strength to all who tend to our health and wisdom to researchers who work toward a

cure. Open our eyes and hearts, as you did during Hurricane Harvey, that we may look beyond

our immediate needs to care for others who need help. Through the Holy Spirit, guide our leaders to make wise decisions for the welfare of all the

people they serve. Grant eternal rest to those who have died from the virus.

May Mary, Our Mother, who has heard our pleas in the storms of our lives, Intercede to her Son, that we may find healing and a prompt end to this illness.

Mary, Star of the Sea, pray for us. Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, heal us.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — As the prophet Samuel anointed Da-vid with oil, the spirit of the LORD rushed upon David (1 Samuel 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a). Psalm — The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want (Psalm 23). Second Reading — You who were once darkness are now light in the Lord (Ephesians 5:8-14). Gospel — The man who had been blind from birth pro-claimed: The one called Jesus made clay with his sali-va, anointed my eyes with it, and told me to wash (John 9:1-41 [1, 6-9, 13-17, 34-38]). Stations of the Cross Every Friday during Lent

7pm in the Church

We follow the way of Jesus from the time of His condemna-tion, to His death, to His burial

in the tomb. Make these Stations part of your own Lenten journey.

Save the Date: Follow Me! The Stations of the Cross presented by the St. Maximilian youth on Friday, April 3rd @ 7:30pm in the Church.

The St. Maximilian Youth Ministry could use your help! Events, retreats, and youth group meetings each week cannot happen unless we have more support from our adults. How can you help? Chaperone! With your help we can provide our youth with awesome opportunities, keep them involved in the Church and keep their faith life growing and thriving! Youth Group nights are held on: Junior High Youth Night: Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8pm; 3 to 4 chaperones are needed! High School Youth Night: Wednesdays, 6:30 to 8:15pm, 5 to 6 chaperones are needed! Six Retreats each year requiring Chaperones: Pre-Confirmation, Confirmation, Jr. High Youth Rally, Good Friday Retreat, Teen ACTS (special requirements have to be met), and the Archdioce-san Youth Conference. The number of chaperones needed depends on the number of youth that register for these events. Please contact the Youth Ministry Director, Jenn Henkel at [email protected], if you can help support the Youth Ministry with your time.

The meetings for First Communion prepara-tion scheduled for Monday, March 23rd and Wednesday, March 25th have been can-celed. Please watch for an email about in-formation on lessons to be done at home. The Confirmation class to discuss the con-firmation experience which was scheduled for Thursday, March 26th has been can-celed. Be watching for information on re-scheduling of this class!

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS

Please!! Do not tape, staple, or glue your offertory/donation envelopes.

That we are less concerned about our outward appear-ance and more concerned with our interior conversion of heart. “Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the Lord looks into the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 How often do we invest our time, talent and treasure in creating an appearance that does not matter at all to God? We strive to impress with our clothing, home, ca-reer, possessions, car and other marks of distinction. But none of these illusions of greatness will impress God. Instead, He will look into our hearts to see how much we loved Him, how much we loved others and how we showed that love by the way we used our time, talent and treasure here on earth.

The CDC recommends the following everyday preventive actions: • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. • Stay home when you are sick. • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or

wipe. • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask. CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from res-piratory diseases, including COVID-19. Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility). • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bath-

room; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

Please check our website @ www.stmaximilian.org for a current schedule of meetings or cancellations. Thank you for your understanding, prayers and pa-tience with us and each other during these times.

The following individuals are asked to remain at home and not attend Mass: • If you are currently ill; • If you are suffering from a chronic health condition; • If your immune system is compromised; • If you are over the age of 60; or • If you are uncomfortable attending Sunday Mass due to concerns over the Coronavirus

(COVID-19). The obligation to attend Mass is being dispensed until further notice.
