Before I had a personal relationship

with God, I was so impatient, prideful

and condemned those who sinned

against me.

Impatient, because even with a little

misunderstanding with my friends,

children and husband I would burstinto anger.

Prideful, because the phrase

" I'm sorry" was not in my dictionary

even if it was my fault.Prideful because I couldn't forgive

easily.

I condemned my husband for giving me

so much pain. I was upset, angry,

messed up and depressed.

I was physically, mentally and

emotionally broken, and was full of

negativity.

We had a bumpy marriage.

And I laid all the blame on my husband.

Forgiveness was something I couldn'tgive to him. It became so bad that I just

wanted to end our marriage.

And just as I was about to do so, God's

mercy, grace and love poured down on

us. When I came to know Jesus,

I realized how amazing His grace was

to us, how unfathomable was His love

and mercy.

And I realized, that who was I to notforgive, when I myself was forgiven?

Who was I to not give second chances,

when I myself was given a chance I did

not even deserve?Who was I to destroy, when I myself

was rebuilt?

Who was I to condemn, when I was

given a Not Guilty verdict by a God who

could just give, and equally just take

away?

He could have easily and justly

condemned me and sent me away fromHim, but He instead welcomed me back

with open arms, and cast away all

condemnation.

God's love is unconditional despite our

flaws and imperfections.

Now, our family is blessed with so

much love and mutual respect.

My husband is now an active member

of the HLM Worship Team.My two kids serve the Lord at the YX

Worship and Click Ministries. And the

Lord has moved me to serve at the

HLML'Fisher site. How sweeter can itget than this?

With so much division and dissension

among professing Christians these

days, we desperately need what

Matthew 18 has to teach.

Jesus rebuked His disciples for their

pride and desire for worldly greatness,and He taught them the three

essentials for unity and harmony

among Gods people.

Forgiveness

(Matthew 18:21-35)

When we start living in an atmosphere

of humility and honesty, we must take

some risks and expect some dangers.Unless humility and honesty result in

FORGIVENESS, relationshipscannot be mended and strengthened.

Peter recognized the risks involved and

asked Jesus how he should handle

them in the future.

But Peter made some serious mistakes.

To begin with, he lacked humility

himself. He was sure his brother would

sin against him, but not he against hisbrother! Peters second mistake was in

asking for limits and

measures. Where there is love, there

can be no LIMITS or dimensions(Ephesians 3:17-19).

Peter thought he was showing great

faith and love when he offered to

forgive at least seven times.

After all, the rabbis taught that

THREE times was sufficient.

Our Lords reply, Until seventy times

seven (490 times) must havestartled Peter.

Who could keep count for that many

offenses?

offenses?

But that was exactly the point Jesus

was making:

Love keeps no record of wrongs(1 Corinthians 13:5, niv).

By the time we have forgiven a brother

that many times, we are in the habit offorgiving. But Jesus was not advising

careless or shallow forgiveness.

Christian love is not blind

(Philippians 1:9-10).

The forgiveness Christ requires is on

the basis of the instructions He gave in

Matthew 18:15-20.

If a brother is guilty of a repeated sin,

no doubt he would find strength and

power to conquer that sin through the

encouragement of his loving andforgiving brethren. If we condemn a

brother, we bring out the worst in him.

But if we create an atmosphere of love

and forgiveness, we can help God

bring out the best in him.

The parable illustrates the power of

forgiveness. It is important to note that

this parable is not about salvation, forsalvation is wholly of grace and is

unconditionally given.

To make Gods forgiveness a temporarything is to violate the very truth of

Scripture (Romans 5:8;

Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:3-7).

BROTHERS, not betweenlost sinners and God.The emphasis in this chapter is on

brother forgiving brother

(Matthew 18:15, 21).
