Jerry Martin,Assistant RE

The single regional raceweekend is becoming a rarephenomenon.

Our WOR Games is the only single,stand-alone race left in CenDiv. OhioValley Regional gives up their singleAutumn Classic for a double raceweekend this year. However, 3 of the5 driver’s schools do include a singleregional championship race aftertheir Saturday school. Detroit plans(tentative) a single regional plusenduro at GingerMan, September.

The remaining CenDiv RegionalChampionship series are all double(13). Two National race weekendsalso list restricted, non-championshipregional races: Land of Lakes atBrainerd—tentative; Milwaukee atRoad America—improved touring.

WOR games is now back to it’straditional, original date: firstweekend in October; a date, foryears, coinciding with the UnitedStates Grand Prix for Formula One atWatkins Glen (fall foliage was at itspeak).

WORGames alsoused to be the last racefor CenDiv championship points, producing a certain anticipatory, unique, pedal-to-the metalambiance. This year’s WOR Games isnext to last, 2 weeks after theRunoffs; time enough (?) to restworker burnout. Although it’s notlast, next to last regional points couldprovide exciting stress. Weatherremains the only question of asuccessful WOR Games. The last 2Runoffs on this date have been wetand cold. Given the variability ofOhio’s fall weather assures greatweather for WOR Games!

See you there.- Jerry Martin

SCCA now has a toll free phone number:1-800-770-2055 (it is also in the last issueof Sports Car©). Eric will be leaving for theSCCA Convention January 31st. See him ifthere are any areas of special concern orinterest. Eric also requested that you contacthim or Chris Watson if you are interested inexploring new locations for WOR Games2002.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:14 PM. Thenext meeting of the Western Ohio Regionwill be at the Christopher Club, February13th, 2001 (Don’t forget the Chili Cookoff!)

Respectfully submitted,Linda Smiley,Secretary

1. A current membership list is beingmaintained.2. A current membership count isbeing maintained.3. A partial inventory of “trinkets &bumper stickers” is beingmaintained.4. A small, inexpensive, “NewMember Welcome Package” wasdeveloped with the help of severalmembers of the WOR Board (TraceyStephenson, Noel Swartz, CherylConnelly, John Schlegel, DebbieSonderman and Wally Ellifritt.5. One down, ten to go.By the time you read this, the AnnualMeeting and Awards Banquet will beover and I will be in Denver at the2001 SCCA Convention. I amstarting to learn that the hardest partof being RE is write an article eachmonth for the Rev Record. Not beinga writer by trade, I find it hard to sitdown an organize my thoughts in amanner that will be both informativeand entertaining. Perhaps byDecember I will have acquired thetalent.

I hope to have a lot to report to the club from the convention inDenver. If you want to hear all aboutwhat is new and wonderful inDenver, then you should attend theFebruary meeting. I will stay after themeeting to discuss specific topics of

One of my personal goals this year isto avoid the endless debate and longmeetings that we typically have atWOR. As part of the fun at our meetings,February’s meeting will be the ChiliCook-Off. Plan to come a little earlyso you can get started on your chilibefore the meeting begins and voteon whose chili is the best. NickFolger will again be bringing his “firechili” and I may talk my wife Lela intomaking her “chili spaghetti.” If youhave a favorite recipe and want toshare it with the club, start cooking!

After listening to some of the com-plaints and problems of dealing withMid-Ohio, I would like to form acommittee to explore other tracks touse for WOR Games. While there willnot be able to make a change for thisyear, we could come up with a newvenue for the 2002 racing season. I know it is early in the year to startthinking about the WOR Games for2001 but I would like to solicit yourideas and share some thoughts I haveabout the regional race we host atMid Ohio. I would like to know whatyou as racers or workers or membersof this club think about our biggestannual expenditure of funds and alsoour potentially biggest generator ofincome. We need a theme for theGames. As our date has been movedto October this year perhaps some-thing with a Halloween theme or lastrace of the year at Mid Ohio orsomething like that. Give me someideas!

I have never been impressed with theparty food that we get from MidOhio for the Saturday night party. Infact I think the food sucks especiallyconsidering how much we have topay for it. I want to explore otheroptions and I am looking for a WORGames Party Chairman to handle thisparticular item for the weekend.Interested? Let me know. I can cooka pig for half the price with all theside dishes and have much better hotfood that everyone will remember. The problem is where to serve it asMid Ohio will not let us serve ourown at the track.Last year we had qualifying races onSaturday PM instead of the usualpractice in the AM and qualifying inthe PM. I liked the format. Did you?

WOR Games Chair ReportChris Watson. WOR Games Chairman

I can cook a pig forhalf the price with allthe side dishes and

have much better hotfood that everyone

will remember.

Let me know. We are going to havethe Electric Lightning Cars joining usthis year so we intend to have eightrace groups instead of seven. Com-ments? We stopped the top finishingcars coming off the track before theyreported to impound for podiumpictures and trophy presentation.Did you like that idea and do youwant to do it again? If so we need aphotographer who can coordinatethe pictures and development, andget the pictures to the Drivers.Interested? There may be money tobe made if the right person does it.

It is not too late to invite some otherrace group (MARS?) to race with usto increase the entry. Any ideas orcomments? Mid Ohio is a veryexpensive place to race. The breakeven number of entries at our currentfee is about 200 cars. The more carswe get to race the more money wemake and the whole facility mannedand ready to go can handle 400 carseasy. If we go

to all the work to put on the race wemight as well make a lot of money.Right?Suggestions please. Finally, I was contacted by the MidOhio track personnel concerningwhether or not we intended to puton the race this year as we werebumped to October by the Runoffs.I assured them that we do intend toput on the race. However the rumoris out there and I need you to spreadthe word that we are going to havethe WOR Games again this year atMid Ohio. But how about next year? You all know my opinion and if youdon’t, feel free to call and get it.Let’s find another place to put on ourrace.

Thanks for your time. I need volun-teers for the games this year and willbe calling on you to help. If I don’tget to you call me and let me knowwhat you want to do. Now is thetime to get that cushy job locked upfor WOR Games 2001.

Have fun and GO Fast!Chris Watson.WOR Games Chairman
