I can tell because the sugar -maple in my yard is showing the first glimpses of yellow and red around the edges of the leaves, the weather is cooling, and of course the Chiefs are back at it, teasing us with dramatic ups and downs during their games. Wow! Fall brings with it a number of events here at FBC. First, our Santa-Cali-Gon Days parking-lot fundraiser was a raging success, with well over $8,000 raised for our ministries! A hearty thank-you goes out to all those that volunteered their time and energies to work the lots and help set-up and take-down each day, and a special shout-out to those that led in this effort: Mike Harper, Gary Rohrs, and Jeff Kimbrough, and to Adrianne Miller for mak- ing sure food was available for all the workers. I appreciate all you did ! Just so everyone will know the value of this fundraiser: We divide the monies raised during this event evenly between our Student Ministries, Children’s Ministries, and Benevolence efforts to individu- als in the community. All of the monies raised will be used well, and in a way that honors the God who provides! Another event that has begun is our annual Fall Bible Study series , this year entitled “First Wednesdays,” because it is scheduled for the first Wednesday evening of each month through December. We had a great crowd of over 60 for our first session, which in- cluded a wonderful meal put together by our “Social” committee, and a close look at the first chapter of I Peter. We’ll pick up the study where we left off coming up October 5; I hope you’ll plan to be there! Finally, we all know that in just a couple of months we as citizens of this great nation will have an opportunity to elect those that will lead our nation for the next several years. Regardless of how you feel about the candidates, I want you to remember that participating in our nation’s elections is not only a privilege, it is also something to which God has called us as His people. Take some time to learn about the various issues facing our nation, as well as where each candidate stands, pray for God’s wisdom and discernment, and then when that day comes in November, vote your conscience! I’ll see you Sunday, P.S. Some of you have asked when I will be taking my Sabbatical Leave, presented to me by this church just a few weeks ago. I haven’t planned it all out yet, but I will be taking it in 2-3 week segments over the course of the next year. Tammy and I will be attending a Seminar at the Billy Graham conference Center at The Coves, in Ashville, NC, in just a few weeks as one part of this Leave; I’ll tell you all about it later. Thank you for this rare opportunity!
