for Teaching, Technology, and Innovation. Learn

commemorating Reunion Weekend. Enrollment

limited to first 12 registrants. Class begins at

Ridderhof Martin Gallery; continues in Melchers

Hall 212.

C. Shakespeare Today! Richard Finkelstein, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Shakespeare is neither the man nor the set of

works that we knew as recently as 25 years ago.

Once seen as a visionary genius whose plays give

us deep insights into human nature, today he is

seen as an enterprising craftsman who attracted

audiences by engaging them in contemporary

debates about power, politics, religion,

sexuality, and identity. What does this changed

understanding of Shakespeare tell us about

ourselves and creativity? Class in Monroe Hall 115.

ALUMNI COLLEGE SESSION IIPre-register for one of three classes

A. Makerspace/Think Lab - George R. Meadows, Ph.D., Professor, College of Education. Explore the new “ Think Lab” where 3-D printing,

electronics, and robotics are explored during a

first-year seminar called Mashups and MakerBots.

See how students from all disciplines are learning

basics of circuitry and automation while designing

3-D objects. Enrollment limited to 12 people. Class

in Simpson Library 225A.

B. Sex and Religion – Mary Beth Mathews, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Classics, Philosophy, and Religion. While popular culture tends to think

religion and sex don’t mix, American religious

history is filled with examples to the contrary. Take

a journey through various religious movements

that will challenge your understanding of what

preachers have said about their congregations’

private and not-so-private lives. Class in Monroe

Hall 115.

C. Cinema and the Self: The Art of Martin Scorsese – Antonio Barrenechea, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of English, Linguistics, and Communication. Martin

his own cinematic creativity and to render a

self-portrait that connects the visual arts. Class in

Monroe Hall 116.

photographs and memorabilia from your time at

Mary Washington to Simpson Library’s new Digital

A. The Global President: International Media, the U.S. Government, and Foreign Policy Crises – Stephen Farnsworth, Ph.D, Professor and Director, Center for Leadership and Media Studies. For good or for ill, presidents

dominate the international political discourse.

This talk focuses on the George W. Bush and

Barack Obama presidencies. The realities of an

ever-changing political landscape are magnified

nowhere more greatly than in the realm of foreign

policy, and the stakes surrounding the need for

quality communication skills are no higher. The

world is listening. Class in Monroe Hall 115.

B. Revealing the Wonders of Honeybees – Wyatt A. Mangum, Ph.D., bee scientist, author, and columnist on honey bee biology. With

close-up photography and movie clips, see how

a bee swarm launches into the air, hear bees pipe,
