Main Project features: Sasumua Dam has the following characteristics:

Constructed: 1957;

Location: 75km north of Nairobi;

Catchment area = 110km2;

Type: 30metre high embankment dam with riprap face;

Spillway capacity = 450m3/sec;

Water storage = 15Mm3;

Treatment plant capacity = 65,000m3/day. The spillway had failed and the entire dam, spillway and draw-off works required rehabilitation, as it is a strategic water source for the City of Nairobi. Scope of Works:

Demolition of existing concrete slabs forming the spillway channel;

Demolition of part of the damaged reinforced concrete spillway and use of the broken blocks on the cyclopean concrete weir and the spillway channel inflow and outflow section’s stone pitching.
