Summary of Water and waste modelling experience: I have knowledge and experience on optimisation of hydraulic analyses using Bentley WaterGEMS® with GIS integration. I also have knowledge and experience on water distribution model building using geospatial data, facilities data, operational data and demand data, model calibration and simulation and establishment of District Metered Areas (DMAs). I have carried out water distribution network modelling both by Epanet and Bentley Water CAD software, including a few survey software for pipeline route data generation such as Lis CAD on projects in 5 towns water supply in Lesotho, 5 towns water supply under High Grand Falls Project (Bura and Garsen Cluster), Juba town and 7 state capitals in South Sudan. On waste water collection network modelling, I have extensive knowledge and experience on SewerCAD v8i computer model software which is an extremely powerful program for the design and analysis of gravity flow and pressure flow through pipe networks and pumping stations and can be run in AutoCAD mode, giving all the power of AutoCAD’s capabilities, or in Stand-Alone mode utilizing its own graphical interface. The most amazing experience I have had with the sewer network modelling software is on its simulation, results presentation and reporting platform. I have carried out sewer network modelling for Nairobi City under Samez and Mott MacDonald to verify effect of water network model during drought conditions, Kabarnet Town, Portland Cement Staff Residence, Siaya and Bondo Towns, 7 State Capitals South Sudan and Ol-kalau.

Project, Kenya (AFD funded). Works value 2 billion KShs.

Main Project features: Sasumua Dam has the following characteristics:

Constructed: 1957;

Location: 75km north of Nairobi;

Catchment area = 110km2;

Type: 30metre high embankment dam with riprap face;

Spillway capacity = 450m3/sec;

Water storage = 15Mm3;

Treatment plant capacity = 65,000m3/day. The spillway had failed and the entire dam, spillway and draw-off works required rehabilitation, as it is a strategic water source for the City of Nairobi. Scope of Works:

Demolition of existing concrete slabs forming the spillway channel;

Excavation of soil within the damaged spillway basin to bedrock (25m of delicate soft soil excavation);


Pouring of mass concrete so as to provide a sub horizontal platform to found the new concrete spillway blocks and walls, basin, downstream weir, chute and ski jump;

Restoration of a diaphragm wall in the soil foundation upstream of the rehabilitated structures;

Rehabilitation of the dam by rip rap protection improvement, crest levelling and adaptation of existing emergency structures including closure of the temporary channel by an earth fill dam and partial removal of the cofferdam;

Restoration of existing instrumentation system, with additional installation of new instruments in the dam and the spillway and rehabilitation of left bank access road.

During internship, involved in works measurements for the Resident Engineer’s office and broadly survey in field, material testing at the Kisumu Ministry of Roads, Public Works and Housing’s Laboratory, for soils, concrete, and bitumen. Other tasks included: material stabilization inspection, culvert construction inspection, earthworks site inspection, road surfacing inspection and field density tests on compacted road layers.
