1 President’s Message May Day, May Day! This is the universally known cry for help. I hate to start a message this way but I feel that I must. I am quite disappointed in the lack of response to my cry for help for the July Hunt Test, which is just around the corner. As we all know, Dave and Nikki Illias have chaired this event for more years than I have even been a club member. I think we all became complacent that they would remain forever. I totally understood when I was informed last year that they would step down as the chairs. This was announced to the membership at that time. Tracy Hildebrandt stepped up in December but due to urgent personal matters, she has had to resign. I put out a call for help at that time and received none. I am acting as Test Secretary and cannot do both positions. Nikki has graciously come forward again to chair this final year and to help me to learn the requirements of running a test. How sad that we as a club cannot pull together more. If we cannot find enough individuals in the future to run this event, which always turns a profit for our club, the event may have to be reevaluated as to whether we have enough interest to continue to offer the test. I would personally hate to see that happen and our club being viewed as a “show” club only. I do want to thank those who have come forward and offered to work at the test. The jobs are not hard but there are many. It is required that those who are on the test committee be there for the entire day. Without these members on site, we could face a serious problem with AKC for not having enough committee members. So again, PLEASE come forward when the requests for workers are announced to offer your assistance. We need you. Now on to more pleasant things! Cathy and Jeff Hakola once again put on a wonderful field training day on their property. Puppies and older dogs got a chance to work with birds. President’s MessageMay Day, May Day!

Thank you so much for the wonderful food and wonderful day. Thank you to Greg Hartman

President’s Message continued

for your stellar shooting and to Tamaria Hartman for arranging to get the birds! We lost no pigeons. Lizzie was able to provide ducks and pheasants as well as some wonderful photos, many of which can be seen on page X and on our Facebook page. Thank you everyone for your assistance in putting on this fun day and especially Chris and Kimberly Dotson and Bob and Barb Gilchrist for helping the new people get an understanding of what is required. Just ask Mark and Jenny Bloom, who discovered how much fun it is to see the light bulb go on in that puppy brain.I was thrilled to see new members as well those who are just getting into the game; these members are the future of our club!

May 16th is the B-Match and should be another fun event (details and the entry form are on page X). Remember that this is the last meeting until September so I hope to see many of you there.

So, on to more fun times in the next few months!

Your President, Cindy Freeman
