The Community of the Resurrection was founded in Oxford in 1892, coming to Mirfield, West Yorkshire in 1898. Our ministry has extended to South Africa and Zimbabwe as well as other parts of the world and throughout the UK.

THE COMMUNITY OF THE RESURRECTION

2

We live together as brothers in Christ, rooted in the Anglican tradition and formed in a Benedictine round of prayer, ministry and hospitality. Worship is at the heart of our life, centred on the Eucharist and daily offices. The tradition of Gregorian chant is part of our drawing on the wells of the Church’s continuity.

From its beginnings the Community has been involved in building up the Body of Christ through pastoral and educational works. Our ministry of spiritual guidance, teaching and support is complemented by all that is offered on our site.

Through the Mirfield Centre, thousands join us each year for retreats, pilgrimages, school and college projects, or simply to experience something of our life. We also host and work with a range of Christian educational institutions including the College of the Resurrection, St Hild College, the Mirfield Liturgical Institute and a Diocesan School of Ministry.

There is a new interest today in religious communities, and this is shown in the increasing number of enquiries from young people about our life. The brethren of the Community are involved with discernment of vocations at every level, from lay and ordained ministry to religious community life. We seek to work with the Spirit of God to discern his will for us as we go into the future.

Parish and Group Visits Get away for the day and spend time with others! A day can be tailored to your needs and interests, but might include a welcome address from a CR Brother, exploration of the gardens and a walk of the labyrinth. Guests are welcome to join the Community for midday worship and lunch, which is followed in the afternoon by a walk of the Stations of Salvation with a CR Brother. The day ends with a mug of monastic tea.

Schools, Colleges & Universities For Schools, Colleges and Universities we offer the opportunity to come and explore the tradition of the monastic life today. Students and pupils will meet members of the Community and can take part in a range of activities including

experiencing the daily routine of a religious community, exploring the monastery, understanding silence and much more. We encourage groups to talk with the Brethren and each other about the principles and values that guide a monk’s life in the monastery – and to consider the significance of community in a world increasingly focused on the individual. We are pleased to work with teachers, students, chaplaincies and others to tailor a visit to a group’s particular needs.

Please contact us to make arrangements for Parish, Group or Educational visits.
