Scammers posing as customers have attempted to steal Lottery tickets by handing clerks debit/credit cards that are not valid. While the clerk tries to charge the card, the scammer runs off with the Lottery tickets.

Protect yourself from this scam by always collecting payment for Lottery tickets before handing the tickets to customers.

The California Lottery is not responsible for any losses you may incur through these transactions. If this happens to you, or someone attempts this, please call the California Lottery Security/Law Enforcement Division immediately at 855-EZ-LOTTO (395-6886) Option 5.

THEFT OF LOTTERY SCRATCHERS®

LOTTERY RESOURCES FEBRUARY 2018

If you are a victim of theft of Lottery Scratchers and seeking reimbursement from the California Lottery, you must meet each of the criteria below, per California Lottery Regulations:

•• Maintain a current and accurate inventory of Lottery products so that stolen tickets can be readily identified*

•• Implement and maintain security equipment and procedures to improve the likelihood that perpetrators will be identified and apprehended

•• Report accurate ticket serial numbers of all stolen Scratchers tickets (game/pack/range of tickets) to the California Lottery’s Security/Law Enforcement Division immediately, and no more than four hours after the actual theft at 1-855-EZ-LOTTO (395-6886) Option 5

•• No more than two claims for losses will be reimbursed in a 36-month period

If these criteria are met, the California Lottery may reimburse Retailers up to 100% of the cost of stolen Tickets fully paid for by the Retailer upon the first claim submitted in any 36-month period, and up to 50% of the cost of stolen Tickets fully paid for by the Retailer upon the second claim submitted in any 36-month period. Any reimbursement is at the sole discretion of the Lottery.
