It was my pleasure to have Melanie Lawrence as a student in my Supply Chain & Retail Replenishment class at Northwest Arkansas Community College during the fall semester of 2013. She impressed me on many levels. Over the course of the semester, I was delighted by Melanie's natural curiosity, her active engagement and participation in discussions, and her diligence in truly understanding the subject matter. Melanie displayed strong leadership qualities during all group activities, but one in particular stands out in my mind. I recall asking the class to complete a complex analytical exercise that required collaboration and final consensus among all. As her classmates displayed uncertainty, frustration and ambivalence about the task, Melanie did not. She stepped up with a high degree of confidence, took charge and effectively led the other students to an agreed upon solution for the problem. Melanie has a habit of exceeding expectations. She gave 110% on her final project for my class. Not only did she deliver a root cause assignment that was organized, creative and analytically sound, she also applied the more difficult concepts covered in class and formulated recommendations for corrective action. This was not a project requirement! She was equally as thorough in completing her project portfolio, which is something each student prepares as a means to showcase their work. I enjoyed the creative liberty she took in designing her portfolio, while still remaining inside the strict guidelines of the assignment.. Melanie exhibits a high level of attention to detail, which is critical in the analytical profession, as well as project management and marketing endeavors. I find Melanie to be a determined individual who is committed to professional growth and driven to succeed. Knowing her personally, I can attest that she has persevered through some very difficult times, and has consistently triumphed over the roadblocks that have been set before her. She is definitely someone I would want on my team!
