COMMENTARY WRITINGThe biggest problem overall was that many people wrote more in the style of a persuasive essay or document based question essay than a personal column. The strongest entries addressed the issue at hand by keeping the focus on the issue and their school, they stated their position clearly and boldly up high, they took advantage of the power of a personal column by using an engaging style with first person, interesting hooks and leads. Finally, the stronger entries used the background material correctly and cited the sources correctly.
