Jody Wilkie, International Specialist Head of European Ceramics and Melissa Bennie, Senior Specialist for 19 th CentuEuropean Ceramics , said: French Royal and Imperial porcelain ruled the day! It was thrilling to see an international range of privinstitutional and trade clients bidding ferociously for both the two pair of Svres vases delivered to King Louis-Philippe on 12 September 18and for the pate-sur-pte tea service delivered to his successor Emperor Napoleon III eighteen years later. The vases Arabe Feuchre , uniqueexamples for which the original watercolor design is retained in the archive of the factory, broke the world auction record for 19th centuFrench po rcelain, selling for nearly $1 million.
