Restricting WP-Admin Directory Access through Secure

WordPress Plugins

If you have a website, it is not enough for

you to make it as appealing as possible.

Most importantly, you must know your

responsibilities as its owner. In addition

to supplying your site with tons of

information and keeping it updated, you

are responsible to keep it secure. This is

vital due to the growing occurrences

associated with malware and hacking.

Among the most hacked open source

blogging platforms is WordPress. It is not

because the security system of this

platform is weak, but rather due to lack of increased security by the many users itself. So how

do you secure WordPress site? The following are the three simple ways to secure your WP blog

site and keep it away from hackers:

1. Increase WP Login Security. Among the best approaches to increase your WP site security is

to secure WordPress login. This can be done in several ways. The first one is by not using

“admin” username and creating a stronger password. To prevent brute force from attacking

your site, it is vital to delete the most obvious vulnerabilities such as admin username and

create one that they can hardly guess. As much as possible, you must also create a virtually

stronger password. Secondly, you must try to limit your login attempts by installing a login

tracker plugin.

2. Secure WP Plugins and Themes. In order to secure WordPress plugins and themes, one thing

you can do is keep these add-ons updated. While inactive themes or plugins can easily attract

malicious scripts, it is highly recommended to remove or reactivate them immediately. When

using themes, on the other hand, it also advisable to use the most secure WordPress theme. If

you want to know whether your site is already infected by malicious scripts or not, then you can

use WP security scan to help you detect it and repair it immediately.

3. Secure WP IIS Permission. Another way to increase the security of you WP-admin directory is

to secure WordPress permission. You can get this done by installing and enabling IIS Forms

authentication and URL authorization on your IIS server. Upon installation, you must set it to

secure WordPress IIS admin folder with added authentication that uses this custom provider.

After that, login the specified username and password specified in your users.xml.file.

These WP security approaches guarantee to keep all sensitive information in your WP-admin

directory protected by two different authentication mechanisms, thus making it harder for

cyber criminals to hack your entire content.
