Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR) includes:

• The use of honest and verifiable methods in proposing, performing, and evaluating research

• Reporting research results with particular attention to adherence to rules, regulations, guidelines, and

• Following commonly accepted professional codes or norms.

RCR Requirements

• “RCR is an essential component of research training”

• All applicants for training grants, career awards, and NRSA fellowships include in their proposal specific educational plans regarding RCR

• Substantial face-to-face with at least 8 contact hours

• All undergraduate and graduate students, and all postdocs employed on NSF awards receive RCR education

RCR Requirements

• NIFA Awards• Training and oversight required for

program directors, faculty, undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and any staff participating in the research project

RCR Requirements

• UGA policy requires RCR training for all personnel employed on NSF and USDA-NIFA research grants

• Some specific waivers and exemptions may be applicable

• On-line CITI RCR training

RCR Requirements

• One month from date on payroll for any NSF or USDA-NIFA research award to complete RCR training

• CITI database checked by departmental Business Officer or designee to ensure that any employee added to payroll meets RCR training requirement
