InOctober2015,theGreaterCambridgeCityDealExecu(veBoardlaunchedaformalpublicconsulta;on,askingthepublicforitsviewsonthebestrouteforanewbus&cycle-routebetweenCambourneandCambridge.

CambridgeBOLDisaresponsetothatconsulta;on.

Ithasbeenproducedlocally.Itrepresentsasmuchaspossibleabroadconsensusoflocalopinionalongtheroute.

WhyisitcalledBOLD?

•  wetookthename“Bold”fromtheJunemee;ngoftheCityDealAssembly,whenvariousAssembly-memberscalledfor“aboldapproachtoCambridge’stransportproblems”.

•  ourproposalsareindeedbold,construc;veandforward-looking:theywillcaterforthegrowingvolumeoftraffic;theyincludeextensiveoff-roadcycleroutes;theyaddressthe“WesternOrbital”routetotheBiomedicalCampus;theyaredeliverable;andtheycanbeconstructedinstagesasaddi;onalfinancebecomesavailable.

•  withamixtureoflight-heartednessandseriousness,wedecidedthatBOLDcouldperhapsstandfor“Brilliantly-Organised,Locally-Designed”

-  public toilets, a small convenience shop(e.g. so that, when coming home fromworkintheevening,passengerscouldpickupsupper),andperhapsapetrolsta;on

• We believe the site could also be a suitablestop/interchange for long-distance coaches,andfortouristcoachesaccessingCambridge

•  Although the site is on the very edge of theCambridgeGreenBelt, that is largelyhistoricas the Green Belt boundary pre-dates theA428.Webelieveanup-to-datesurveywouldshow limited benefit of retaining the site inthe Green Belt. We therefore believe thatconsidera;oncouldbegiventoremovingthesite from the Green Belt and planningpermission givenas suggestedabove,on thegrounds of the excep;onal benefit to publictransport thatwouldbecreated. (Note thattherearenoarchaeological/heritageissuesatthissite.)

•  CyclistswouldexitthePark&Ride(viatheroundaboutsorthe‘bluebridge’)andusetheStNeots’Roadcyclelane

•  TheycouldtheneitherdropdownLongRoadtotheWhitwellWaycycleway(seeourproposallater),orcon;nueondowntheexis;ngMadingleyHillcycleway.
