About National Institute of Technologies (NITs)
The National Institutes of Technology (NITs), is an engineering, science,
technology and management school system in India comprising thirty
autonomous universities, one located in every state / UT of India. Since
their inception decades ago, all NITs were referred to as Regional
Engineering Colleges (RECs) and were governed by their respective state
governments. A parliamentary legislation in 2002 brought them under
the direct purview of India's federal government.
NITs offer degree courses at bachelors, masters, and doctorate levels in
various branches of engineering and technology. Each NIT takes 50 %
of students from its home state and 50 % from the rest of India.
Admissions in NITs and some other premium engineering colleges are
through All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).
Highlights
§ The NIT brand is regarded very highly as one of the premier
technical education institutes in India
§ The NITs are rated just next to the Indian Institutes of Technology
(IITs) in terms of quality of education, research and placements
§ The placements in all the NITs have skyrocketed lately, especially at
the National Institutes of Technology at Tiruchirappalli, Surathkal,
Warangal, Calicut, Allahabad and Durgapur
§ Some of NITs alumni are working as professors in IITs, IISc, IIMs,
NITs, and also abroad in colleges like Stanford and Caltech

The admission to the NITs, IIITs and many other prestigious
engineering colleges is through the All India Engineering
Entrance Examination popularly known as AIEEE.
The following States/Institutes used AIEEE-2010 ranks to fill seats
through their own counselling:
Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Army Institute of
Technology (Pune), Delhi Technological University (Delhi), Netaji
Subhash Institute of Technology (Delhi), DTU (Delhi)& Punjab
Technical University (Jalandhar, Punjab).
The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of
India took a policy decision in 2002 to conduct an All India
Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) for admissions primarily
to the prestigious National Institutes of Technology (NITs). The NITs,
now 30 in number, were created by upgrading across India,
Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) that were famed for the
diversified student exposure they provided. It is organized by the
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and last year
10,65,100 candidates appeared from which approximately 26,816
students were offered admissions.
Eligibility
AIEEE tests a candidate’s knowledge of Mathematics, Physics and
Chemistry and students who have completed or are appearing for
their 12th standard examinations (Higher Secondary Studies from a
recognized educational board) are allowed to appear for the AIEEE.
One can attempt AIEEE only thrice, in consecutive years, first with the
qualifying exam and then in the next two years. Candidates belonging
to GEN categories must secure at least 50% marks in aggregate in their
qualifying examination to be eligible to write AIEEE .Whereas those
belonging to OBC, SC, ST, DS and PD categories must secure at least
40% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination. There is no
criterion for minimum age but candidates must not be above 25 years
(GEN/OBC) and 30 years (SC & ST).
About All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE)
Reservations
As per Government of India rules, candidates belonging to certain
categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed
criteria. For the SC and ST categories 15% and 7.5% seats are
reserved respectively. For candidates belonging to OBC, 27% of the
seats are reserved.
Examination Pattern
There are two papers with the first for admissions into B.E. / B.Tech.
courses comprising objective questions in equal proportions from
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and the second for admissions
into B.Arch. / B.Planning courses comprising questions on
Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing. Negative marking is applicable
and 1/4th of the total marks allotted to a question is deducted for
wrong answers. The AIEEE 2010 paper was for a total possible 432
marks (144 for each subject). It is bilingual question paper.
Normally the exam is conducted on the 4th Sunday of April. The
result of AIEEE is normally declared in the first week of June every
year.

Periodic Assessment System
In Resonance we believe in in-depth assessment which is extremely
essential for actual evaluation. For this we have adopted the
following two ways:
Formal: It involves testing students through periodic, major tests
and surprise tests.
Informal: It involves observing students either by listening to
them in class or by their homework and DPPs and identifying
students in need of additional support.
Practice for National & International Level Examinations
Regular test series & workshops are conducted for NTSE, various
Olympiads and other competitive examinations.

About e-Learning Programmes Division (eLPD)
e-Learning stands for Electronic Learning where we at Resonance
intend to deliver quality content to the remotest corners of the
country and in fact the world by incorporating the latest
Information & Communication Technology (ICT). e-Learning is based
on the concept of Anytime, Anywhere Learning wherein students
can learn based on their comfort & preparation levels. The
e-Learning Programme Division (eLPD) started operations in the
2009-10 academic session by launching a pilot project - BITSAT
2009 Online Test Series. After its resounding success, a full-fledged
BITSAT 2010 Online Test Series was launched wherein 47 students
were selected for the Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad BITS campuses.
In order to cope up with the contemporary Digital environment,
eLPD has come up with a bouquet of
Programmes:
§ Online Test Series
§ Preparation CDs
§ Xcelerate: Live-video Learning Programmes (LLPs)
Online Test Series
The traditional pen-paper exercise of writing entrance exams is now
transforming with the advent in technology, after exams like CAT &
BITSAT going online, AIEEE is another all-India level exam which
became partially online from 2011. Hence, Resonance has come up
with Online Test Series for various competitive exams – BITSAT, AIEEE,
IIT-JEE, NTSE, IJSO, etc. to hone students' online test taking skills.
Highlights
§ Each test (with solutions) is available for the whole academic
session unlike in other Live mode test series. This gives flexibility
to students to appear in the tests anytime and from anywhere
based on their level of preparation. However, the Rank &
Performance Analysis is given to those students only who access
online tests before their expiry period (7 days from the test date)
§ Virtual All India Rank - Students get All India Rank (AIR) vis-à-vis
resonance classroom & Live mode distance learning students
§ Macro-Micro Analysis - Students' performance analysis charts &
graphs are shown at various levels:
§Subject wise
§Comparison with toppers
§Negative marks analysis
§Topic wise analysis
§Question wise analysis
§ Answer key to all questions & hints / solutions to some
important questions
§ Students can also download all the tests except those of BITSAT
§ Special feature of BITSAT Online Test Series: Internet connection is
not required for the complete test duration. Internet is only required
only at the start & while submitting.
Preparation CDs
Preparation CDs include detailed Lecture videos for Science &
Mathematics for Class VII, VIII, IX & X. These Lecture videos cover all
the CBSE Topics exhaustively. Students can replay the CDs unlimited
number of times so as to grasp the smallest subject fundamentals
involved. There is a CD for BITSAT aspirants as well, which consists of
16 Tests strictly according to BITSAT pattern & syllabus.

About KVPY
The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an ongoing
programme started by the Department of Science and Technology,
Government of India to identify and encourage talented students
with an aptitude for research in Basic Sciences, Engineering and
Medicine. This program strives to assist students to realize their
potential for successful careers in research and development and
generous scholarships are awarded to the selected students (up to
the pre-Ph.D. level).
Eligibility
SA Stream: Students enrolled in class XI (science streams) and having
secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks in their class X
Board Examination’s aggregate of mathematics and science subjects.
SB+2 Stream: Students enrolled in class XII, aspiring to join
undergraduate programmes in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./Integrated
M.Sc.) and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST)
marks in their class X Board Examination’s aggregate of mathematics
and science subjects.
Selection Process
There are two stages in the selection process, namely, a written
examination followed by an interview. Candidates from both
streams, SA and SB+2, have to appear for a written aptitude test
(conducted both in Hindi and English). The question paper in SA
Stream will have both multiple choice objective and descriptive type
of questions. There is no prescribed syllabus for the written test but
its purpose is to test more, understanding and analytical abilities of
students and less, their factual knowledge.
Fellowships
The department of Science & Technology, Government of India,
offers attractive fellowships (` 4,000 to ` 7,000 per month) and a
contingency grant (four months fellowship) to selected students.
Student's Speak
“Resonance faculty motivates the students
to appear in different competitive
examinations other than IIT-JEE. With RKV
sir’s guidance, I attempted for the KVPY
examination and got selected. Resonance’s
KVPY material also supported me
immensely and allowed me to make my
attempt with full confidence.”

About Olympiads
Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education is the nodal centre of the
country for Olympiad programmes in mathematics and sciences
including astronomy. The programmes aim at promoting excellence
in science and mathematics among pre-university students. The
following International Olympiads are conducted by Homi Bhabha
Centre for Science Education (HBCSE):
International Physics Olympiad (IPhO)
International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO)
International Biology Olympiad (IBO)
International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA)
International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO)
International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO)
Since August 2008, a new integrated National Steering Committee
for science and astronomy Olympiads has been overseeing all
activities for these subjects.
The Olympiad programmes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology,
Astronomy (junior and senior level) and junior science comprise a
five stage process in each subject as given below:
1 National Standard Examination in Physics / Chem. / Bio. /
Astronomy (NSE P / C / B / A)
2 Indian National Physics / Chem. / Bio / Astronomy Olympiad
(IN PhO/ChO/BhO/AO)

§
§
§
§
The first stage for each subject is organized by the Indian Association
of Physics Teachers (IAPT) and all remaining stages are organized by
the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE).
Stages of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO):
1 Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO)

The Mathematics Olympiad is conducted under the aegis of the
National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) and the programme
is financially supported by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE),
Department of Science and Technology, Department of Space and
Ministry of Human Resource Development. All examinations are
offered in English Medium, however, the Junior Level NSEA Question
Papers may be available in Hindi, Gujarati and Bengali provided
there are at least 300 students opting for the respective language.
Awards
HBCSE offers no career incentives (admissions or scholarships) to
Olympiad students. HBCSE views the Olympiads mainly as a
promotional programme to encourage students towards basic
sciences by providing them with challenging academic
opportunities. However, some special merit awards, in the form of
books, etc. are given to students in appreciation of merit at the end
of the training camps in different subjects of science.
68
At Resonance, we not only prepare students for the toughest
entrance examinations like IIT-JEE, AIEEE and AIPMT but also
nourish them to develop a logical/scientific temperament and
participate in KVPY and Olympiads.
Awareness Sessions are arranged round the year to motivate and
educate students about the KVPY & Olympiads and their
importance
Students are given a preview of these examinations in special
classes and workshops. Mock Tests and Mock Interviews are also
conducted so as to give maximum exposure before the real test

Study Material & Home Assignments:
Study material is provided to the students in the form of Sheets and
MQBs. A Sheet is typically a topic wise collection of problems in each
subject i.e. P, C, M, B & Z. It is provided to the students as printed
Study Material (topic wise). The objective of the Sheet is to achieve
perfection in a topic while it is being taught through rigorous
practice of variety of problems of various levels. The entire syllabus
is approximately divided into 25 to 30 Sheets in each subject. The
contents of the Sheet ends with Miscellaneous Question Bank (MQB)
which is a set of additional but jumbled problems and is meant for
those students who want more problems to practice. After each
Theory Class, the student is assigned to attempt some problems from
the Sheet (keeping in mind around 15 Questions per Lecture per
Subject) as Home Work. Further, these problems are discussed in the
successive Theory Class for better understanding of the concepts/
fundamentals of the portion of topic taught in the previous class.
Periodic Assessment Tests (PATs):
To make students competitive and prepare their temperament for
competitive examinations, Resonance developed a multiple-level
system of Periodic Assessment Tests (PATs) and relative ranking
that encompasses the entire student pool which increases at every level.
This system is unique to Resonance because of the reach of its Study
Centres through Classroom Contact and Distance Learning Programmes
across India. The PATs include Part Tests (PTs), Cumulative Tests (CTs),
Major Tests (MTs), Full Syllabus Tests (FSTs), JEE/AIEEE/AIPMT
Preparatory Tests (JPTs/APTs/PPTs) and Open Tests (OTs).
Batch Formation & Reshuffling:
The initial batches of students are formed on the basis of students'
performance in ResoNET for IIT-JEE: YCCPs and on a first-cum first
serve basis for YCCPs: AIEEE and AIPMT. Thereafter the batches are
shuffled periodically (2-3 times in a year) on the basis of students'
cumulative performance in the Periodic Tests held at Resonance.
Once the reshuffling is done, no requests for change in batch are
entertained. Sometimes, students' attendance / discipline may also
be considered for batch reshuffling.

“The main weapon needed to crack the tough
shell of JEE is that of self confidence, and
Resonance has done a brilliant job in boosting
our confidence by conducting appropriate
tests at just the right time. The lectures have
always proved to be a treasure of knowledge
and quintessential fundamentals. The time
that I have spent in the sanctum sanctorum of
this temple of learning has been one of the
most enriching yet enjoyable moments of my
life. I consider myself really lucky to have
been a successful alumnus of this institute,
which has undoubtedly been the best decision
I made in my JEE preparation.”

“Off course, Resonance helped me immensely
in achieving this success. Before joining
Resonance, I had never expected a good result
from my self but this institute helped me in
regaining my self-confidence. The teachers
here are very hard working, helping and
understanding. The pains taken by them, and
theirs hard work always encouraged me also
to do work hard. I have learnt here that the
more sincere efforts you put in, the better
results you will get back, but just try; not think
about result when working.”

IIT-JEE 2003
“Resonance made it possible for me to get
through IIT-JEE with a good rank. The teachers
motivated us to stress on finding ways to crack
the objective questions very quickly, without
having to learn many formulae. They asked us
to focus on our strong points, and experiment
with our strategies during the tests, so as to
realize the strategy most compatible with
ourselves. Proper understanding of the topic
was stressed upon, as it helps the student
develop his/her own way of solving the
problems. Maths problems were, wherever
possible, dealt with in their 3D visualizations.
This helped us develop confidence and speed
in our problem-solving.”

Aerodrom Circle, Kota
Kota - situated on the banks of river Chambal (a tributary to river
Yamuna) is a city in Rajasthan which was considered to be the
industrial capital of Rajasthan till the 1990s. The establishment of
coaching institutes after 1990 however changed that identity into
one synonymous with brilliance in specialized coaching education.
The city rapidly emerged as India’s most well-known educational
city and at present Kota has 01 Technical University, 01 General
University, 01 Open University, 10 Undergraduate Colleges,
10 Management Colleges, 01 Medical College, 01 Dental College,
07 Engineering Colleges, 20 B.Ed. Colleges, 40 CBSE Schools
(10+2 Level) and 60 RBSE Schools (10+2 Level).
Also known as the “Mecca of Coaching”, Kota witnesses every year
over 60,000 aspirants of IIT- JEE, Medical competitive examinations
and other entrance tests for some of India’s best institutes of higher
education. As a natural progression, Kota is blessed with excellent as
well as economic lodging, boarding & food facilities and a safe &
strict environment of law & order.
How to Reach Kota
BY ROAD - Kota is situated on National Highway NH-12
(Jaipur-Jabalpur). The NH-76 (Pindwara-Udaipur Baran-Shivpuri)
also passes through Kota.
BY RAIL - As Kota is situated on the main Delhi-Mumbai railway
line, it is linked with all the major cities of India. The Kota railway
station is located at the extreme northern end of the town which is
about 10 km away from the Resonance Corporate Office.
BY AIR - Kota has its own domestic airport but it is presently not in
operation . The nearest operational airport is Jaipur (240 km away).
School Education
A student aspiring to join Yearlong Classroom Contact Programmes
in Class-XI or XII has to simultaneously join a school at the
respective study centres (as applicable) to undergo formal school
education to appear in School / Board Examinations which are the
Qualifying Examinations for IIT-JEE and other engineering / medical /
similar entrance or scholarship examinations.
Resonance has no formal or informal tie up with any of the school
anywhere in the country for 'formal' school education.
Resonance only provides classroom coaching for IIT-JEE / AIEEE /
AIPMT for the students of Class XI & XII. Howsoever, there are a
number of CBSE/ ICSE/ State Board schools where the student can
take admission for their schooling. The institute (Resonance) will not
be responsible for any matter regarding school education.
Kota: A Hub Of SuccessAccommodation
Resonance does not have its own hostels but a student enrolled in
Resonance can choose from any of the following accommodation
options:
§ Rental Accommodation
§ Private Hostels
§ Paying Guest Accommodation
All such accommodations are easily available in close vicinity to the
institute. Separate girl's hostels and PGs are also available and
proper security measures are undertaken by their owners for the
safety of girl students.
Food
The food can be arranged from different eating outlets, paying guest
accommodation providers, private cooks etc. The Tiffin system (door
to door delivery) by several messes is also prevalent. These messes
provide hygienic and nutritious food which is relished by different
taste buds coming from all across the country.
