Resolution to Legitimize the Ateneo Task Force 2016

A resolution to endorse and legitimize the Ateneo Task Force 2016 as an external unit affiliated to the

Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng mga Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo de Manila.

Whereas, the Sanggunian, recognizing the rightful and vital role of the Filipino youth in national

efforts to advance and preserve freedom, democracy, human rights, national dignity and interest,

social justice, unity, peace, and development in Philippine society, shall raise Ateneo student body’s

critical awareness of and proactive response to issues and their root causes affecting the life of the

nation and the Filipino people;1

Whereas, the Central Board has the power to create departments, committees, staffs, task forces,

and offices as may be necessary to discharge specific functions of the board;2

Whereas, task forces created by the Central Board are limited to the executive powers granted by

the Central Board;3

Whereas, scouting, approval, and appointment process of task force heads shall be discussed upon

the discretion of the Board members;4

Whereas, task forces are reserved of its right to create subcommittees as recommended by the Task

Force heads with the knowledge and consent of the Board;5

Whereas, the Ateneo Task Force has been an initiative that is active during the period prior to the

Philippine national elections as a means to raise awareness among the Ateneo student body;

Wherefore, be it resolved that the Ateneo Task Force 2016 shall be Ateneo’s official student group

responsible in setting the direction and centralizing all activities in the university in line with the

2016 national elections;

Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Ateneo Task Force 2016 can be abbreviated as “ATF

2016”;

Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Ateneo Task Force 2016 shall be a task force

commissioned by the Sanggunian that shall handle all matters relating to the national elections;

Wherefore, be it further resolved that the initiative shall be composed of the following phases:

1. Voters’ Registration

2. Voters’ Education

3. Bantay Halalan

4. Bantay Pangako

Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Voters’ Registration phase shall have activities that

promote voters registration in the Ateneo and in nearby communities through coordinating with the

COMELEC in setting up in-campus satellite voters’ registration desks and disseminating information

on the voter registration procedure;

Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Voters’ Education phase shall have activities that foster

responsible and informed voting among the LS community through forums, campaigns on issues of

national importance, collaborating efforts with other LS stakeholders and bodies of similar purposes,

and other initiatives that encourage voters’ political education;

Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Bantay Halalan phase shall have operations during the

election season itself wherein the task force shall conduct poll watching with the cooperation of

student volunteers and coordinate with the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV);

Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Bantay Pangako phase shall aim to involve the student

body in monitoring the plans, actions and decisions of the elected officials to promote the

sustainability of their platforms;

Wherefore, be it further resolved that the head of the Ateneo Task Force 2016 shall be appointed

upon the discretion of the Central Board;

Wherefore, be it further resolved that each phase shall have their respective subheads and shall be

appointed by the head of the task force;

Wherefore, be it further resolved that the head of Ateneo Task Force 2016 will report to the Central

Board on the task force’s activities;

Wherefore, be it finally resolved that, with the approval of the Central Board by a majority vote, this

resolution shall take effect immediately.
