With the development of living standards and the change of life styles, there have been great changes in recreation,

consumption and emotional commitments. Thus, pet industry is surging. As pets are getting more popular, the quality control

requirements for pet food are stricter. Besides pet food quality safety, residual solvent testing of pet food package has also

drawn the attention of the manufacturers. Hereafter, we will make a brief introduction on residual solvent testing of pet food

packages, with the help of Labthink PARAM GC 7800 Gas Chromatography.

During manufacturing process of pet food packaging, great amount of organic solvents, methylbenzene, xylene, ethyl acetate,

butanone, butyl acetate, ethanol and isopropanol, etc., are used in printing, lamination and coating. Those solvents would,

more or less, remain in the packaging materials. If great amounts of such solvents remain on pet food packaging, the health of

pets would be endangered. Besides, solvent residual would lead to off-odor of pet food, which would further influence pet

food consumption resulting from the pets’ sensitive olfaction system.

Labthink PARAM GC7800 Gas Chromatography is an analyzer for the separation and analysis of multifold components. It

employs gas as flow phase. Since gas phase and liquid stationary phase of each composition has different distribution

coefficient in the chromatographic column, when multifold composition substance comes into the chromatographic column,

each composition moves in different speeds. After certain column, multifold composition substance leaves from the

chromatographic column and into the detector orderly, detector produces signal and transfer it into the data processing

station to complete the qualitative and quantitative analysis. The auto feeding has eliminated human interference and

operational errors in manual operation. Thus, it can be widely applied in the testing of material, gas, aroma, residual and

cigarette packaging for its high accuracy. It’s the best choice for testing institutions and academies, as well as packaging, food

and pharmaceutical industries.

When solvent residual index of pet food packaging is qualified, there are other necessary indexes to guarantee product quality

within shelf life period. For more information, please visit: www.labthink.cn
