RESIDENTIALSELECT PROJECTS
THE WORDS WE LIVE BY
Since 1960, SB Architects has provided leadership in the planning and
design of global hotels, resorts, destination communities, multi-family
residential and urban mixed-use projects. With offices in San Francisco,
Miami and Shenzhen, we provide responsive, creative and tailored
experiences and the technical capabilities to successfully deliver projects
of all scales from initial concept through construction. We promote
sustainable communities and iconic brands, both locally and globally.
Whether your world is a hotel, a winery, a home, or a mall—and whether
you are a guest, an employee, a shareholder, or a member of our
community — we work hard to create a better world around you.
With a focus on collaboration, we encourage an openness to new ideas
and creative interpretation. Our mission is to not only create alluring
and successful projects but also nurture the shared passion and vision
that allow for a rewarding journey for the entire team. We believe that
hospitality is founded in the cultivation of strong relationships with each
other, our clients, our partners, and our communities. Architecture is not
only about buildings, design, products, standards, and efficiencies – it is
about people. It is the very heart of hospitality, as people are the very
center of our business.

ASCAYA
L A S V E G A S , N E V A D A
Ascaya, a tranquil refuge from Las Vegas’ energetic
pace, sits on a half-acre site with sweeping views of the
city and the surrounding mountain ranges. The
7,200-square-foot luxury estate includes four bedrooms,
six and a half baths, office, entertainment room, and
expansive indoor-outdoor space. Clad in a combination
of rammed earth, plaster, steel and glass, the design
captures a “contemporary desert” aesthetic. The
simple massing and horizontal lines are tempered by
rich, earthy textures of stone, rammed earth, wood and
corten steel. The contemporary home offers expansive
living, dining and kitchen areas. And through a series
of clerestory windows, the roof seems to float, semi-
disconnected from the structure. The home also
features a covered outdoor dining room, a sunken fire
pit, outdoor spa, an indoor multi-functional room with
a highly coveted roof deck.

ST. REGIS RESIDENCE LAS ESTANCIA, LOT 17
R I O G R A N D E , P U E R T O R I C O
One of a series of luxury homes with direct beach
frontage, this residence is part of the exclusive resort
community of Bahia Beach and is directly adjacent to
the famed Bahia Beach Golf Resort. This modern
home becomes a work of art that makes the most of
Puerto Rico’s soothing seascape. It has a hint of mid-
century modernism, with its overhangs and horizontal
lines and simplicity in form and color. The modern,
glass-walled home reflects the blue of its infinity-edge
pool. Pavilions provide shade from the sun and serve
as balconies for bedrooms on the second floor. An auto
arrival court leads to a more intimate entry courtyard
featuring a water garden and a sculptural glass-
enclosed staircase.

SU CASA AT DORADO BEACH, A RITZ-CARLTON RESERVE

The five-bedroom, historic Su Casa serves as the
presidential suite for the resort. It was thoughtfully
designed with luxurious, spacious layouts and lush
landscaping. The regal villa stretches 8,000 square
feet along the coastline and boasts pristine ocean
views, expansive open-air living spaces and separate
maid’s quarters. The 1920’s renovation retained its
Spanish-style hacienda authenticity. The grounds
feature towering palm trees and expansive gardens
with a private infinity edge pool that faces the ocean.

THE HILLSIDE HOUSE
M I L L V A L L E Y , C A L I F O R N I A
Nestled in the hills of Mill Valley just across the Golden
Gate Bridge from San Francisco, this custom home is
the first LEED-H Platinum Certified home in Marin
County, and one of the first in the state of California.
This home is a statement of what is possible in “high
design and high sustainability”. This project represents
the collaborative effort of a visionary group of partner
companies, who have come together to bring this
first-of-its-kind project to Marin County. The architectural
vocabulary is a careful balance between modern
sensibilities and the rustic, natural surroundings—a
modern cabin. Set deep into the hillside, nearly 20% of
the home’s total square footage sits below grade, taking
maximum advantage of the hill’s natural insulation. A
central circulation core connects four levels of living
spaces, each of which embraces the outdoors through
expansive windows and decks. Every window in the
home opens to a view of the trees, and many to a view
of the San Francisco skyline.

BERNAL HEIGHTS
S A N F R A N C I S C O , C A L I F O R N I A
This compact, but visually expansive, home is located
in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.
The urban infill site presented a unique opportunity to
create a new, free-standing home while maintaining
the site’s existing structure as a separate residential
unit. The new home was built at the front of the lot,
capitalizing upon the panoramic views of San
Francisco’s downtown. The naturally sloping site
inspired the idea of a focal stair core wrapped by
private areas and topped by a dramatic skylight,
bathing the interiors in natural light and forming a
direct link between the private spaces on the entry
level and the public spaces on the upper level. The
corner location and internal organization of space
created an exterior expression that broke free of
horizontal restraints to create a blend of horizontal
and vertical lines, punctuated by a strong cantilevered
roof.

SILICON VALLEY
S A N F R A N C I S C O B A Y A R E A , C A L I F O R N I A
Set in the rolling hills overlooking the Silicon Valley, this
home is designed to capitalize on views in several
directions from both interior and exterior living spaces.
Large expanses of glass retract to blur the line
between indoor and outdoor areas. The mezzanine
and the outdoor courtyard, are strongly distinguished
from one another yet are connected to each other
visually. The well finished nature of these spaces, the
use of timber detailing, the stonework and plantings all
contribute to a uniquely modern home that the owners
feel has the essence of the timeless, mid-century
design that inspired its creation. Designed with
sustainable practices in mind, the home features living
walls and green roofs.
