January 2011 I have thermally inspected your house. In this report for your review are photos showing conditions of the areas inspected and a description of findings. The inspection included:
1. Visual Inspection 2. Thermal Diagnostics 3. Thermal images, Real life photos and a description of findings
This infrared inspection is a guide for the building owner to qualify and quantify the presence of heat loss and or cold infiltration. Conducted and or convected heat loss and or cold infiltration can greatly affect heating and cooling costs. Conducted heat loss and or cold infiltration can be addressed by adjusting R values with insulation to reduce the amount of energy needed to heat and or cool an interior space. Convected heat loss and or cold infiltration can be addressed by evaluating leak areas and making corrections as needed. The conditions needed to qualify the presence of heat loss and or cold infiltration are an ideal minimum 40 deg F temperature difference between the inside and outside of the building being inspected to capture conducted heat loss and or cold infiltration. Other conditions such as positive, negative or static pressure of a building from hvac equipment and or weather conditions may reveal convected heat loss and or cold infiltration. These conditions may reveal a significant or insignificant amount of heat loss and or cold infiltration during the inspection however the information gathered is very valuable but may be inconsistent depending pressurization of the building and weather conditions. This report and associated recommendations are based on the conditions at the time of inspection. Both conditions and recommendations will change with time, changes to the building and normal wear and tear. While every effort has been taken to provide accurate interpretation of the anomalies found AIRIS assumes no liability directly or indirectly as a result of this inspection. I am looking forward to working with you in the future regarding any building inspection issues. In the mean time, should you have any questions regarding this report, do not hesitate to call. Comments: Having a heating and or cooling system in the attic space adds insulation challenges. Containing the heat and cooling within the heating and or cooling system is important for better efficiency of the system and added heat loss issues in the attic environment such as a source of heat loss contributing to ice buildup. Generally the attic floor may be insulated with an R30 between the interior conditioned space and the attic space. The insulation generally used in the heating system may be a lot less adding heat sources in the attic and reducing the efficiency of the heating and cooling system.
