population including Ethiopian immigrants, and sabras, from all socio-economic backgrounds.

AMIT Yehuda is in the process of becoming an all-boys school. Students concentrate on intense Torah

The AMIT Yeshivat Hesder in Afula opened its doors on September 1, 2008. The Yeshiva has 80 students,

as well as a number of students currently serving in the IDF. Students come from cities, towns and villages

in the North and remain relatively close to home while at the yeshiva. AMIT Yeshivat Hesder is not only

an institution of Torah learning and Zionist values but also works to strengthen the city’s religious schools

and the entire community.

This is the first Yeshivat Hesder that has a partnership with a municipality, it is a community yeshiva] with

full cooperation with the garin Torani (idealistic, religious Zionists, individuals and families, who settle in

underdeveloped communities to help build up and strengthen the community through social and religious

AMIT Ashdod was founded in 2015 with one 7th grade class of girls. The school will add a grade each

and sciences.

School Description:

Midreshet AMIT Be’er Ashdod, a sister seminary to Midreshet AMIT Be’er Yerucham, accepted its

first class of students in September 2016. The seminary is open to female high school graduates who

wish to study Torah and engage in community service before and after their military service. Students

spend the year learning and serving the Ashdod community before they enlist in the army. The girls

live together in an Ashdod neighborhood and contribute assistance to areas such as immigrant

absorption, tutorials for schoolchildren, individual mentoring, special-ed, civic landscaping, post-

graduation prep for current high school students, a bat mitzvah program and much more. The heart of

the new Midrasha is the Beit Midrash, where the young women learn Gemara, Bible, Midrash, Jewish

philosophy, halacha, hasidism, and the weekly Torah portion. One afternoon a week, the Beit Midrash

is open to the Ashdod community.

School Description: The AMIT Fred Kahane Technological High School was established for students who have not met academic requirements or have been expelled from their regular, academic schools. There are approximately 265 students in grades nine through thirteen. Students have the option to study toward full matriculation or toward a technology or vocational diploma. The school integrates a holistic educational intervention program that assists the educational staff in developing ways to help each student reach his/her potential. The school continues to offer the highest level of vocational studies in business administration, hair design, culinary art, and car electronics. The school offers personal attention, small classes and a dedicated teaching staff.

In 2015, a small junior college program (known as grade 13) was started at AMIT Fred Kahane. Students study for one year to extend their vocational training and then continue on to the army or National Service.

The school has a school enrollment of 615 students in grades seven through twelve. Established in 1960, Ashkelon Bet has a long history in the city and has seen its thousands of graduates integrate into all areas of Israeli society

Prior to 2014 the school had been struggling in terms of poor reputation, low test scores and fluctuating student enrollment. The AMIT Network was called in to offer its support and expertise in school management, increasing Bagrut scores and teacher development. One of AMIT’s goals is to turn this school, the only religious junior and senior high school in Ashkelon, into a viable and attractive option for post-primary religious students.

Students’ needs are the focus of the school. The size and diversity of the school enable it to offer students a wide range of study tracks, so that each student can tailor a most suited to his/her needs, strengths and interests. Study tracks offered at the school include biotechnology, communication engineering, physics, biology, chemistry, Arabic and Amharic. yeshiva aims for excellence in academics, and religious observance. Courses of study include Judaic studies,

AMIT Elaine Silver has an enrollment of 115 students in grades nine through twelve. The school is for

or vocational diploma, which is required if a student wishes to continue his/her education or to join a

specialized army unit.

The school now offers three vocational tracks - Information Technology (IT), automotive electronics,

computer graphics and design. The automotive electronics track is the first of its kind in Beersheva. AMIT

Elaine Silver has a partnership with the Mechanics Union which enables students to receive on-the-job

training at local auto shops. In addition, a wide array of enrichment studies and initiatives are offered,

including: landscaping, early childhood education, partnering with engineering students from a local

college and business leadership.

AMIT Hazon Ovadiah has an enrollment of 195 students. Many of the school’s students are FSU (former

Soviet Union) and Ethiopian immigrants. The school is located near an absorption center, and the school

immigrant population is very fluid. Students attend Hazon Ovadiah when they are living at the absorption

center and often leave the school when their families find permanent housing in a different school district.

The school has a well-developed arts program. One of the important features of the arts program is that

it gives immigrant children an alternate mode of expression before they have mastered Hebrew and can

express themselves verbally. The school starts teaching English in the first grade, giving students a two-

year head start in English instruction.

AMIT Frisch Beit Hayeled in the Gilo neighborhood in Jerusalem is home to 100 children, ages five to

fifteen. These children have been removed from their biological homes due to neglect, dysfunction and

abuse. At Beit Hayeled they find much needed warmth and love. Beit Hayeled is responsible for all the

children’s daily and long-term needs - physical, educational and emotional. AMIT Beit Hayeled is run with

complete cooperation and supervision from the Child and Teen Services Department in the Ministry of

Social Affairs.

Based on gender and age, children are placed with normative young families at Beit Hayeled, where they

are provided with a nurturing and structured environment. By living in family units (mishpachtonim) along

with married couples who very often have their own children, children begin to develop positive, loving

relationships, learn responsibility, independence, cooperation, and are able to experience “normal” family

life that they lacked with their biological parents. In addition, Beit Hayeled has two units for children

who reside off-campus. These children spend the majority of their day at Beit Hayeled, enjoying the same

support and opportunities as the other children. Being emotionally healthy will enable these children

to break out of the cycle of poverty and dysfunction and allow them to be independent, functioning and

fulfilled adults.

Midreshet AMIT provides young women from the United States, England, Canada and other countries

campus of AMIT Frisch Beit Hayeled, a residential childcare facility for 120 Israeli children who face

a two-year junior college program, open to the school’s graduates as well as students from around Israel.

Students who enroll at the junior college are able to defer their IDF or national service until after they earn

a valuable technician’s diploma. The diploma enables students to carry out meaningful and vital roles during

their army/national service in line with their expertise. This experience is empowering for students, as it

enriches their personal experiences and increases their future employment prospects. Studies at the college

are coordinated with the IDF’s Ordnance Corps and the Israeli Air Force. The program is operated under

The desire and need for this type of yeshiva came from the community and the Ministry of Education. The

Ministry of Education, together with a committee of interested parents, approached AMIT about founding and

operating such a yeshiva. The yeshiva offers a full schedule of limudi kodesh and secular studies. This curriculum

will enable students to both maintain their haredi lifestyle and continue on to university and a career.

Reishit Yerushalyim Elementary School has an enrollment of 505 students and is located in the Kiryat

Menachem neighborhood of Jerusalem - one of the poorest and most disadvantaged neighborhoods in the

country. The school was founded by an urban kibbutz, whose members chose to live in the Kiryat Menachem

neighborhood, support education and contribute to the community.

Reishit Yerushalyim is committed to accepting students from the neighborhood. All local children who

want to attend the school are accepted. There is great demand among parents in Jerusalem’s better

neighborhoods, and about 50% of students come from middle to upper- middle level socioeconomic

neighborhoods. Due to their educational philosophy and their emphasis on parent involvement Reishit

Yerushalayim Elementary School has successfully integrated these two groups of children.

AMIT Karmiel has the highest rate of IDF enlistment in Karmiel.

AMIT Karmiel actively encourages its students to take high-level math. The school has been making a particular effort to attract girls to 5-unit math programs at the school.

AMIT Kfar Blatt Youth Village in Petach Tikva currently has over 500 students in its care, 190 of which

come from Ethiopian families. This includes students in grades 7-12 who attend the junior and senior

high school, as well as students in the junior college (grades 13-14). These students come from neglectful,

dysfunctional, and even abusive families. Many of the students live on campus under the care of young

couples who serve as their surrogate parents.

The mishpachton is a family unit with a married couple and 16-18 boys or girls who live together in their

own apartment with a living and dining room, kitchen, and bedrooms, as well as a small apartment for

the surrogate parents. They eat their meals, do their laundry and chores and spend their free time there

together with their “family”.

There is also a pnimiat yom program at AMIT Blatt Youth Village. This program is for students who do not

live on campus but receive all the services, including meals, throughout the day that on-campus students

receive in special day units designed for this purpose.

The Village teaches Torah, Religious Zionism and mutual respect, and aims to help each student reach his/

her true potential. In addition to the surrogate parents, the Village employs social workers, psychologists

and guidance counselors who all provide intervention, support and direction, as needed.

The Village administration places great importance on its informal activities. The student council is

elected by democratic elections and is very active on campus. There are also a number of student

committees that are involved in planning and determining the way of life in the village. Students have a

wide range of electives to choose from: music, sports, drama, dance, electronics, computers, hair styling,

AMIT Wurzweiler is on the campus of the Kfar Blatt Youth Village. The school offers a wide range of

courses of study, enabling each student to work at their own level. With over 510 students the school

offers a full Bagrut track, a technology or vocational diploma. Vocational tracks include: life sciences and

agriculture, auto mechanics, administration and industrial management. Despite the fact that most of

the students come from very difficult family situations and start this school at low academic levels, the

AMIT Bienenfeld Hevruta Yeshiva currently has 135 students in grades nine through twelve. The school’s

philosophy and educational approach is to nurture students, facilitate development of their many

intellectual abilities according to Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences: eight abilities that he held to meet

these criteria: musical-rhythmic, visual-spatial, verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, bodily-kinesthetic,

interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. This unique approach gives students the values, tools and

skills they need for productive and fulfilling lives. Hevruta is proud of 100% IDF enlistment. About 90%

of graduates defer the army for a year or more in order to attend pre-army preparatory programs or

yeshivot. Most then go on to serve in prestigious combat units and many become IDF officers.

Hevruta currently has three tracks: music, animal training – dog training, equine training and

environmental studies. Students work toward certification in these areas, while also pursuing academic

studies, - each according to his ability and personal objectives. While a full Bagrut program is not

mandatory at Hevruta, more and more students each year are deciding to pursue full matriculation.

In the spring, students in the environmental studies track embark on their 50-day, 1000-kilometer trek

from Eilat in the South to Mount. Hermon in the North. While the hike is supervised, 50 day students must

Since 2012, AMIT Ramle has offered a military cadet program, in cooperation with the Israel Defense

study of logistics, motivates students and keeps them focused on a goal. This is particularly important for

Jerusalem College of Technology’s Machon Lev. Students study electronics and electrical engineering.

Upon completion of their studies, students have the skills to qualify for a technician or junior engineer

certificate. The AMIT Rehovot program was conceived in order to enable students to combine religious

studies and vocational/technological studies. The goal of cooperation with Machon Lev is to enable

outstanding students to continue their academic studies at the college after the service in the IDF.

School Description:

In September 2007, Yeshivat AMIT Amichai opened to one 7th grade class. Each year since, a grade was

added with the goal of turning the school into a full junior and senior Yeshiva High School. The Yeshiva

reached that goal and now has a complete high school – grades seven through twelve. With a student

enrollment of 415, Yeshivat AMIT Amichai educates the love of Torah, Israel and one’s fellow man;

commitment to mitzvoth and building a religious Zionist identity. The Yeshiva encourages intellectual

curiosity and recognizes the importance of spirituality, the arts and the sciences in lives of its students.

AMIT Amichai was one of the first schools to join the Gogya Center initiative, AMIT’S hub for educational

innovation and teacher development, located on the AMIT Kfar Batya campus in Raanana.

Each year, Israel’s Ministry of Education publicly recognizes junior and senior high schools throughout

Israel for their integrity, values and achievement. This year, Yeshivat AMIT Amichai was one of three

AMIT schools that achieved the highest ranking.

School Description:

AMIT is the sole religious Zionist educational network in Sderot for both elementary and secondary levels.

AMIT Sderot Junior. and Senior High School has an enrollment of 54 students in grades seven through

twelve. A significant segment of the school population is from the Former Soviet Union and Ethiopia. The

school includes four tracks: Leadership High School for Boys, Yeshiva High School, Ulpana with a focus on

academic studies, and Ulpanat Shirat, with a focus on intensive Judaic studies.

Since AMIT Sderot first joined the AMIT Network, matriculation success rates have increased from a

low of 20% to an astonishing 83%. This is significantly above the national average and is an impressive

accomplishment, taking into consideration the constant threat of missile attack and the inherent stress that

comes from living so close to a hostile border. Student enrollment is increasing as well; families who once

sent their children out of Sderot for high school are now keeping them in Sderot. The school collaborates

with a number of organizations and foundations in order to provide challenging educational enrichments.

These partnerships include programs in the areas of leadership, robotics, cyber and Land of Israel studies.

AMIT SDEROT GUTWIRTH JR. AND SR. HIGH SCHOOL Address: Shar HaYeshuv Street

School Description:

AMIT Sderot Gutwirth Junior and Senior High School is the only secular junior and senior high school

in the city and joined the AMIT Network in the fall of 2005. The school has 800 students and caters to

a varied ethnically diverse population, new immigrants, children whose families have lived in Israel for

generations; and students from both well-established and poverty-stricken homes. The school’s motto

is Derech Eretz Kadma L‘Torah, meaning good manners, politeness and treating others with kindness and

consideration. Democratic values, love of country, and Jewish tradition are emphasized.

There are programs for highly gifted and motivated students to programs that help prevent students

from dropping out of school. Emphasis is based on the sciences, computer education and, for those in

need, the development of basic academic skills in Hebrew, math and English studies. In the 7th grade the

students research their family history in preparation for their bar and bat mitzvah. At the high school

level, subjects such as biotechnology, economics, social studies, media and communications, mathematics,

English, computers, and Russian are offered at different academic levels. Since the school has joined the

AMIT Network, it has witnessed a vast improvement in Bagrut scores.

The school has recently added a two-year junior college where graduates can study industrial and

management and practical engineering. There are currently 30 students attending the college with the

aim of increasing the student body annually.

School Description:

AMIT HaRoeh has a student population of 210 students from the first grade thorough the sixth grade.

Many students are recent immigrants from the FSU and Ethiopia. The school accepts all applicants

regardless of Jewish religious observance or educational ability.

AMIT HaRoeh offers a special literacy program of one-on-one and group tutoring for weaker students and

new immigrants; and a special program that includes extra hours of instruction in math and reading

to bring students up to grade level.

AMIT Torani Mada’i has a student enrollment of about 215 in grades one through six. The school offers

a wide range of enrichment programs: sciences, astronomy and chemistry; English language beginning

program in entrepreneurship for fifth and sixth graders in which pupils design, produce and try to market

a new product.

School Description:

AMIT Torani Chadash has a student enrollment of about 455 students in grades one through six. The

majority of the students are third or fourth generation Israelis with recent immigrant children from

Ethiopia making up a segment of the student body. The school is co-ed, but classes are separated by

gender. AMIT Torani offers a full curriculum, and the school day includes two extra hours of Judaic studies.

School Description:

The AMIT Beatrice and Irving Stone Meysharim school in Shoham currently has an enrollment of 105

students, ages 12-21 who come from over 50 different towns and cities - anywhere between Gedera

and Hadera (about a 100 kilometer span north to south through the entire center of the country). This is

a special education school for students who are academically, behaviorally, and emotionally challenged.

The students are divided into classes according to age and educational level. The school has three main

goals: academic achievement and closing learning gaps; teaching students the life skills necessary for

future independence and employability; and ensuring their emotional health through therapy and other

activities. There is a wide range of therapy available including: movement therapy, music therapy, art

therapy, psychodrama, and greenhouse therapy. Sessions focus on self-image, social interactions,

and adaptation.

AMIT Florin Taman Junior and Senior High School for Boys has approximately 363 students in grades

communities of Marom HaGalil and Hazor HaGlilit. AMIT Florin Taman aims to give each student an equal

opportunity to realize his potential. The school emphasizes mutual respect, love of Torah, love of Israel

and love of the City of Tzfat. The school offers majors in the sciences, electronic systems and general

technology. A number of students at AMIT Tzfat participate in a medical track in conjunction with the new

Bar Ilan University Medical School in Tzfat.

AMIT Florin Taman Junior and Senior. High School for Girls offers a dual track program: a standard

academic track and an intensive Jewish Studies ulpana track. There are 400 students in the school who

come from Tzfat and the neighboring communities of Marom HaGalil and Hazor HaGlilit. The school’s

philosophy is that all students can succeed, with learning facilitated by teachers who believe in their

students and are committed to students’ achievement. Each student has a personal scholastic profile that

assists teachers in individualizing teaching and learning. The school emphasizes dialogue among students,

teachers and administrators and has implemented practices to encourage dialogue, such as an “open

door” policy of approachable faculty members, conversation corners and personal mentoring. A number

of students at AMIT Tzfat participate in a medical track in conjunction with the new Bar Ilan University

School Description:

The AMIT Tzfat Evelyn Schreiber Ulpana is operated as an autonomous track within the AMIT Tzfat

Junior and Senior High School and has an enrollment of 180 girls. The Ulpana fosters an atmosphere

that both challenges and encourages students to grow as young women, achieve academically, and

make a difference in their school and community. Matriculation (Bagrut) success rates at the Ulpana are

consistently around 100%, which means almost all students pass their matriculation exams successfully

every year. The Ulpana offers a wide range of Torah and Judaic studies and general academic studies.

Recently added study majors include communication and film, a medical track in conjunction with the

new Bar Ilan medical school in Tzfat, a law track, a physics track and a biology track.

The Kamah School for girls was established in 2006 in the Negev town of Yerucham. Kamah is an

Orthodox school run in accordance with Halacha and belongs to the State Religious School system. The

career and the service of their choice after graduation: the IDF or National Service. Study of Gemarah,

Torah, history, and secular subjects such as art and music are taught in an interdisciplinary and innovative

Midreshet AMIT Be’er, is a special kind of “Hesder Yeshiva” for girls and attracts religious girls from all

over Israel. Midreshet Be’er integrates intensive Judaic studies, community involvement, engagement

in social issues, and full service in the IDF. The three-year Midreshet Be’er program was established

in 2001 and has 38 on-site students, as well as students currently serving in the IDF. The program has

hundreds of graduates who are educated religious women who study Torah and are involved in the

community.

Midreshet Be’er teaches young women to feel at home in the world of Torah as well as in Israeli society.

– to be involved, creative and productive members of the community. It aims to empower women as

leaders in modern orthodox society. The school inspires girls to take part in the “Beit Midrash” world

in a committed and intensive manner. Midreshet Be’er also aims to develop the Negev by encouraging

educated and involved religious people from the center of the country to the Negev.

Yeshivat AMIT B’levav Shalem in Yerucham joined the AMIT Network in 2010. The Yeshiva serves

approximately 345 high school students. Students who attend the school come from Yerucham and

in addition to their studies, students are very involved in volunteering in the community. In addition to
