One day Workshop on "Research Methodology and Data Analysis" was organized by department of commerce, SIMS with 1QAC on February 02, 2019 at the campus of Soundrya Institute of Management and Science, Bangalore.

This workshop focused on the procedure to do research. As a researcher it is mandatory for one to know the basies and have a core idea in order to satisfy the purpose of research and establish an acceptable conclusion.

The workshop began with the prayer and felicitation of the guest. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Rajashekhar, Asst.professor, Department of commerce. The session started at sharp 9.30 am.

Session I: Dr. DNS Kumar, the resource person, started the session by discussing the meaning and need of research. Sir explained the concept of Research design, various types of research like Exploratory, descriptive and casual research with

examples. He explained the various formats of research proposals and explained them in depth for all the components of the research proposal. He made participants aware regarding national and international legislation for patent granting. He also focused on the important issue of writing a research proposal. As pointed out, research proposal is operational plan to assure supervisors or funding agencies of the validity of the methodology used to obtain answers to research questions more accurately and objectively. Despite different requirements in writing a research proposals depending on time length, discipline, level of education of student researchers, supervisors or experts, funding agencies etc. there are some general guidelines in preparing research proposals, which to a large extent corroborate with the various steps involved in research process

Session II: - Dr. Kavitha Mathad, Associate Professor, Christ University was the resource person for this session. Dr. Kavitha started the presentation by explaining the concept of data collection, analysis, Hypotheses, Types of Hypotheses like Null and Alternate Hypotheses, Criteria to create good research hypotheses. Madam also explained the concept of one tail test and two tail test and procedure for testing of hypotheses.

She gave brief introduction about various tests that are being commonly used for research purpose. She explained the interpretation of various tests that were

applied in SPSS like t-tests, Z-tests, Chi Square, ANNOVA etc.

Then the house was declared open for any queries regarding the research methodology and the doubts that were very well answered by Dr. DNS Kumar and Dr. Kavitha Mathad with great enthusiasm and to the satisfaction of the academicians.

This workshop has created a sense of justification among the learners and they are

looking forward to do research write and read the research papers or undertaken research projects.

The Workshop came to an end after the completion of II session. At the end of the

workshop, Valedictory Session was conducted where all the participants were given certificates. Vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Anil kumar K Y, Commerce Department. The program was concluded with happy note from everyone and with a group photograph.

One day workshop on researeh methodology was organised by Dept. of Post

Graduation studies in commeree, This was Organised keeping in view the

dilemma that many students lhce to carry out a research in a more systematic

manner beeause of lack of understanding of fundamentals of research despite

the course vork on researeh methodology during post graduation levels. The

workshop basically toeused on helping participants to understand basics of

esearch nmethodology with special focus on writing a research proposal.

The session was started at 10; am, The programme was attended by 150

students belonging to different disciplines and categories like masters, research

seholars, academicians.

The speaker for the workshop was Dr. K Nirmala Prof. of Dept. of commerce

Bangalore university. The speaker highlighted on important characteristics of a

research. speaker elaborated on important operational steps of doing a research

such as formulating a research problem, specifying objectives, conceptualizing

research designs, collecting information from target groups, analysing data and

writing report. The speaker explained various issues which included formulate

research problems/ questions and objectives, designing a research, methods of

data collection, various types of sampling design, processing and analysing

information and principles of scientific writing of a report.

The discussion in fact evoked a lot of questions among participants to which the

speaker explained with research based evidences. Participants were also

provided with opportunities to respond to each question. The question- answer

session in fact enabled clarifying some of the misunderstanding the various

methodological issues.

The workshop commenced with welcoming the gatherinJg by Dr. Shivakumar Ganachari, IQAC coordinator of SIMS who narrated the objectives of the workshop. GIRISH.B.N, IPR filing expert explains about the importance of IPR in recent world. Totally 64 participants including faculties and Students of the SIMS are participated in the programme.

The workshop begins with the History of Intellectual Property from beginning to evolving phase. Subsequently explaining the formation of World Intellectual Property Organization and its roles and functions i.e., IPR agreement administration, IPR Practices harmonization. Further explaining the Indian scenario of Intellectual property system and the Office of the

Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion. Subsequently explaining the roles and functions of Intellectual property Office in India. Finally explaining the process of filing the Patent application, Copyright application, Trademark application, Design application and the Scheme for Facilitating Start-ups Intellectual Property Protection.

The discussion session has more interactions from students and this workshop kindles the younger minds of the SIMS who had an idea of being an IPR expert or take IPR filng as their profession.
