The Kiss Land album cover features the artist giving direct address. His body language added with this gives an arrogant mood from the artist. This represents him as a traditional male. He is shown in a mid shot and takes up the majority of the photo, being the only focal point. This helps the audience identify him and idiolise him. There is a very simplistic layout with the picture and title separated by a plain black border. The font incorporates the same oriental influences as the poster and CD. This theme is also used in some of his songs. The green colour theme is masculine as well as connoting money and drugs. These are conventional of the larger hip-hop genre. The lack of information on the cover is similar to his website and adverts as they address the target audience’s demand as they don’t want a lot of information. The poster is an addition to the oriental theme. It incorporates the same green as well as red connoting violence and contrasting nicely. The poster has a very traditional representation of women as they are shown as sexual objects. The cartoon character on the poster is a contrast to the conventional character of a hip-hop artist but also acts as a kind of logo. The CD uses the same green and shows a structural pattern made of straight lines. It resembles the New York skyline but gives a very futuristic impression which is a theme explored in a few of his videos.

  1. 1. The Kiss Land album cover features the artist givingdirect address. His body language added with this givesan arrogant mood from the artist. This represents himas a traditional male. He is shown in a mid shot andtakes up the majority of the photo, being the only focalpoint. This helps the audience identify him and idiolisehim. There is a very simplistic layout with the pictureand title separated by a plain black border. The fontincorporates the same oriental influences as the posterand CD. This theme is also used in some of his songs. The green colour theme is masculineas well as connoting money anddrugs. These are conventional of thelarger hip-hop genre. The lack ofinformation on the cover is similar tohis website and adverts as theyaddress the target audiencesdemand as they dont want a lot ofinformation. The poster is anaddition to theoriental theme. Itincorporates thesame green as wellas red connotingviolence andcontrasting nicely. The poster has a verytraditionalrepresentation ofwomen as they areshown as sexualobjects. The cartooncharacter on theposter is a contrastto the conventionalcharacter of a hip-hopartist but alsoacts as a kind of logo. The CD uses the same green andshows a structural pattern made ofstraight lines. It resembles the NewYork skyline but gives a very futuristicimpression which is a theme exploredin a few of his videos.
  2. 2. The cover of this album has the same simplistic layout as the first using the black border to separate the photo and thetitle. This gives the audience less to read and focuses them on the photo more. It also addresses the target audiencesfeelings towards the information that could be on the front. In the photo the artist is not giving direct address and a lotof him is in the shadows. This gives a sense of mystery to the artist that he is known for. The photo is a mid shot of theartist and he takes up most of the shot and is the clear focal point. The black and white theme is very powerful and addsto the shadowed effect that adds mystery to the photo. The back of the CD cover shows a similar photo of the artistwhere his eyes are not visible and it is very hard to identify him giving the same mysterious effect. The two overlayingphotos give an obscured view of the artist. This could give the impression of drug use and some of the target audiencemay be able to identify with this. The back continues the simple theme, listing the songs on their CDs without muchinformation or description. The CD is completely plain in keeping with the general theme.
  3. 3. The cover of the albumshares a simplisticapproach although thelayout is different tothat of The Weekndsalbums. The mid shot ofthe artist takes up thewhole cover as well ashis logo. This gives aclear brand andidentification for theartist. I noticed thesame overlaying shotsof the artist giving adistorted view that mayrepresent conventionaldrug use. This is alsorepresented by the lensflares showing differentlights. These are alsoconventional of thegenres videos. The CD and inside of thecover share the sameinformation. The logo is theoverpowering factorshowing clear branding forthe new artist. It also saysthe most popular songsfeatured on the album. Thelanguage used is veryinviting, Welcome to theparty using the artistsname as well as making theaudience feel like they are apart of something whenthey buy the album. Theback cover gives a lost ofsongs and informationabout them. The layoutcontrasts with TheWeeknds lack ofinformation however thiscould be because he artist isnew and people needinformation about him.
  4. 4. The cover of the album shows the artist looking away from camera. This gives the samesense of mystery as in The Weeknds album cover. However, he does not take up much ofthe screen, he does not demand all the attention in the photo which is unconventionalas it is a modern male representation. The gold theme symbolises wealth which isa very conventional theme for the videos but challenges convention when it comesto album covers. The signs of wealth are also in the props and background. There islots of information inside the digipack about each song with the background showingthe artist smoking as well as other strong imagery that gives a traditional representationof the male. The strong red flames are symbolic of violence in the genre of music and ofchaos. The artist again, does not give direct address. It gives no interaction with theaudience and makes the artist seem almost untouchable or part of a different world andadds to their status. The back cover of the album features the song list with a bit ofinformation about the albums production. This is different to any of the other digipacksand has a strong contrast with the Weeknds albums that take a much more basicapproach. The back also incorporates the black and gold theme of the cover and matchesthe artists costume and the genres conventional costume. The CD uses this as well. It ismore simple than the back cover as it only features the titles and the logos of Drakeslabels.
