Audience analysis What we noticed from the questionnaires is that everyone has different

tastes in what they like to watch and that one of the first things they want to see in a movie is the setting, plot of people interacting.

Then how we took it into consideration was that for our film might include a bit of what these anonymous people enjoy.

Notes on film opening❖ Taken 2

➢ Jump cuts, flashy lights, birds view shot. High angle shot, a lot of cutaway shots.

➢ Suspense music, anticipates viewer. ➢ Good interesting editing, flashy scenes, quick camera

movements, letters popping on screen then shuttering out or sliding out.

➢ No main character is established, just shots of people taking care of caskets.

➢ A series of jump cuts and flashing lights. It seems as if the camera is trying to display a blurred vision. Something is flying over a body of water, then a military looking plane begins to land on a runway, the doors slowly open and caskets are being taken out. As these tiny bits of scenes are being displayed there as still flashes in between them. A man wearing a pilot suit is taking notes on the caskets. Throughout these 2 mins, all of the characters name begin to appear on the screen.

Notes on the opening film❖ The Shallows

➢ Long shots, low angle shots, and establishing shots.➢ No music just the sound of waves and ocean noises.➢ Main character established, only a little boy playing on

the beach. ➢ Sets the story that something weird/creepy happened on this

calm beach. ➢ Young boy is playing with a soccer ball on beach and the

camera shows something moving in the water. A helmet with camera on top of it, the little boy picks up the helmet and is about to turn the camera on but the camera shows an over the shoulder shot and reveals a creepy smiley facce signs with “x’s” as eyes. Then to the other side with a side dutch angle shot, it shows something weird floating in the water.

Notes on the opening film❖ American Psycho

➢ Neutral shot. Camera is not moving, things are falling in front of it.High angle shot. Shooting on a white background. With black letters.

➢ Suspenseful music every time a drop of what looks like blood falls, music plays as if something intense is coming.

➢ -No main character is presented.➢ -Sets the first minute to seem that someone has just killed

someone else and blood is dripping from their knife, but in reality the person is making a fancy steak.

➢ -Drops of a mysterious red liquid are falling, they fall past the camera, the music gets more intense the more drops come down. The camera moves down onto a surface and we finally see drops hitting the white surface as the Title of the movie appears. Squirts of the red liquid continue to be shown but now are making designs on a white surface. Camera presents a hand gripping a knife moving in an upwards direction, steak while cutting marks are shown and the knife lands on the steak. Berries then fall and a beautiful fancy steak dish is shown.

Conclusion - film openingFrom watching all the opening scenes, we realized that what really attracts a viewer seems to be the music and the suspense that it gives. The way the camera and backgrounds are positioned, makes the viewer's first impression towards what the movie might have to deal with or maybe what is resulted from it.

We analysed that depending on what mood we want the audience to have, the music plays a big part on it.

❖ The Shallows. In the beginning scene, it shows a tranquil environment just a boy playing on the beach, but it rapidly becomes intense. In our opening scene it gave us an idea to start of the scene as if everything is okay and the movie is calm but in a matter of seconds everything escalates.

❖ Taken 2. The concept behind the movie is getting kidnapped and the dad/husband is who helps save the people but in our movie the father/ex lover is who is behind the whole mess.

WHICH FILM COMPANY WOULD PRODUCE OUR FILM?The company that would produce our movie would be Millennium Entertainment because they are known as one of the companies that produces thrilling films, like ours. Also known as the Alchemy company. They have produced some intense movies such as Stolen, The Persecuted, and Survivor. This would be a great company to produce our films because when people see the logo they know that it’s not like the common production companies that all have the same plots in their movies.
