PROGRAMME

2016

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

CERIB’s Research & Development programme has two objectives: firstly, for the medium and long term, to improve understanding of the behaviour of products and materials, and to advance technological innovation; and secondly, to come up with reactive answers consistent with the expectations of manufacturers and their markets. It is important that the results of our research and development allow to find industrial applications or to contribute to standardization or regulations.

Our Research & Development topics are divided into 5 groups: sustainable development, fire and fire safety engineering, concrete technology, structural design, and standardization/certification.

Competitive-intelligence studies are conducted beforehand to check the interest of a subject and the issues surrounding it; an experimental study may be carried out subsequently.

Two further actions promote the results obtained:dissemination of knowledge and transfer of technology.

The 2016 programme consists of 64 Research and Development studies, 22 of which are new. The programme is the result of thinking engaged by precast concrete product manufacturers and members of the Technical and Scientific Committee. This exchange of ideas means that the concerns of all players-suppliers, administrative agencies, public-sector research and training bodies, inspection bodies, users of precast concrete products, etc.-are taken into account.

Of the 22 new studies in the programme:

> 7 directly pertain to sustainable development, > 2 relate to fire and fire safety engineering,> 1 concerns concrete technology,> 9 deal with structural design, and,> 3 concern the topic of standardization, certification, and quality

management.

A competitive-intelligence study into the circular economy has also been initiated. It will determine the issues and opportunities for the precast concrete products industry and highlight the advantages of these solutions for sustainable development.

BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology is also a part of the programme, with the objective of building a database of precast concrete products and systems which can subsequently be shared.
