History of RnB

• Rhythm and blues, famously known as R&B is the term used for a wide range of musical styles black Americans created in the 1940s.

• It came from the scenes of urban industrial centres, such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit and New York.

1940s to 1950s

• From 1948 onward, black music was marketed as "rhythm and blues," a term ascribed to music producer Jerry Wexler.

• In the 1950s as R&B became more popular it provided a template for other genres, including Rock ‘n’ Roll.

1960’s• The R&B market was dominated Motown Records in the 1960s

which included the likes of Diana Ross and the Supremes and Smokey Robinson and the miracles.

• R&B was referred to as soul music which a man called Sam Cooke founded by combining elements of Gospel music.

1970s to 1980s

• RnB soon became more than just soul music, it also included funk, jazz and disco.

1990’s to present•Now, the term R&B is more broad and can be described as soulful, modern, rock, with hip hop influence and performed by artists such as Ginuwine and Mary J.Blige. •Although many artists are recognized as R&B performers, there are few that stick to the soulful sounds reminiscent of R&B such as Alicia Keys and John Legend.

Possible names for my RnB/HipHop magazine

• Drama• Rhythm • Riddim• Blaze• Shake

•Domino•Tempo•Beat •Encore•Def

I have tried to think of possible words that link with Music or the genre RnB/Hip hop itself. For example my favourites for my magazine out this list are ‘Riddim’ and ‘Def’. This is because the word Riddim means rhythm and originated from Jamaica and Def which was developed during the main Hip Hop era and meant something was really good or ‘kicked ass’.
