Welcome toResidence Life @ Newbury

Dear Resident Students,

On behalf of the Office of Residence Life, I congratulate you on your acceptance to Newbury College. We look forward to having you join our residential community this fall!

The residence halls will serve as your home for the academic year. It is my hope that the lessons you learn in the residential community are as important and valued as the lessons you will learn in your classroom.

I am one of many staff members working diligently behind the scenes to ensure that your experience is positive and beneficial to you, both as a student and person as a whole. The purpose of Residence Life is to help connect you to your peers, the institution, and ensure that the community you are a member of is exceptional.

I urge you to get involved right away and make Newbury your home. We eagerly await your arrival.

Sincerely,

Jennifer ForryDirector of Residence Life & Community Standards.

Moving away from home can be very exciting and nerve-racking. It is a time when you will meet new people from different backgrounds who have things to share with everyone.

We would like to encourage and challenge you to meet and get to know as many new people as possible. From the people on your floor, building, or anyone on campus, you will be in the midst of students who are looking to meet you!

Here are some tips that can help you in your transition to Newbury College:

• Get to know your Resident Assistant (RA)! They are a great resource that will be able to answer most of your questions throughout the year.

• If you are homesick, talk to someone. There is no doubt that you will miss your family and friends from home. If you are feeling homesick, talk to your roommate, RA, or friends and family at home.

• Join or start a club on campus. This is a great way to get involved and keep

your mind off family back home and meet new people who are interested in the same things you are.

• Maintain a healthy lifestyle. Staying healthy is one way to fight stress,

and with a new school, friends, and classes there will be high-stress and challenging times when your body needs the right kind of fuel.

Remember college is a journey that you are in charge of; it is your time to make your own choices, and no one else.
