As I reect on the past year as chair of the chamber, it has been a great year to continue to be involved in the business community of Waseca. Over the past year we celebrated with the business community with our annual awards in which we recognized our Boss of the Year, Bill Jensen with Mediacom, and celebrated our Business of the Year being Cinch Connectivity Solutions.
This year also brought us heartache with the passing of Dan Hoehn. Dan was very committed to the chamber and very involved as being the past chair. Even after Dan’s diagnosis of pancreatic cancer he continued to want to be involved with the chamber, working to make a dierence in the Waseca business community. Dan’s passing caught many of us by surprise. Dan was an advocate for our community and he will be greatly missed.
Over the last year the chamber has worked very hard to provide tools for our membership and business community. This year the chamber has revamped its website to make it more user friendly but also a stronger tool to help build our business community. Some items within our new website include our new business modules that assist our members with: County/City Statistics, Sites and Buildings - assist in nding optimal business locations, Demographics – come see what our work force demographics can do for your business, and Member Business Directory. Also added to the website is the new blog in which you will nd relevant information and tools with business news and resources. Within the new website is a new video that showcases our business and community.
As I look forward there is a lot on the horizon for the Waseca Chamber and community. Save the date – Join us on October 19th. The chamber will be hosting our rst Leadercast simulcast that will broadcast on the big screen at the Central Building. By attending Leadercast – this event will sharpen your leadership skills, increase employee engagement and collaboration, grow leaders within all levels of your organization and build relationships with customers and vendors. An event to inspire and motivate you! For more details visit the Waseca Chamber website at www.wasecachamber.com/educational-opportunities.
Also in the upcoming year the chamber, in conjunction with Riverland Community College will host its second LEADERSHIP Greater Waseca Academy. LEADERSHIP Greater Waseca Academy is held every other year in the Waseca community. This leadership program is designed to enable candidates to learn about Waseca area resources, values, strengths, weaknesses, and challenges. A learning experience geared toward providing an in-depth look at key elements of the community. Please visit the chamber website for more information on this exciting opportunity.
It has been my pleasure to serve as board chair this year. I have met and worked with many of the business leaders in the community, but I have also made many new friends in the community. The Waseca Chamber thanks you for your support and also asks that if there is any more the chamber can help with in your business to please reach out to our oce.
