3. THAT the content of the plaque be referred to Council’s Historian and the Royal Australian Navy for approval, but it is suggested to include an outline drawing of the ship and include words along the lines of: HMAS Waterhen, one of the old destroyers of the “Scrap Iron Flotilla”, served with distinction in the Second World War earning the Battle Honours Libya 1940-41, Greece 1941 and Crete 1941. Whilst running supplies to the Army in Tobruk HMAS Waterhen was damaged by air attack on 29 June 1941 and sank the following day. She was the first ship of the Royal Australian Navy lost to enemy action during the war.
