A seminar on Yoga was organized in Dr. B. R.
Sur Homoeopathic Medical College,
Hospital & Research Centre, Nanak Pura,
New Delhi on 01st May 2015 for the orientation
of interns and staff members on the role of
Yoga in various disorders

The seminar started with the brief introduction on Yoga
by Dr. V. D. Sharma. He emphasized that yoga is
more than just physical exercise and postures.
It is a holistic system that also involves mental
relaxation, diet management, disciplined
lifestyle and positive thoughts and behaviour.
The ROLE OF YOGA IN ASTHMA was presented
by Dr. Amrita Das and Dr. Deepika Semwal.
They demonstrated how GOMUKHASANA improves inhalation process and helps in
complete diaphragmatic movements.

The ROLE OF YOGA IN STRESS & RELAXATION
was presented by Dr. Anjali, Dr. Mukesh Savaria
and Dr. Swati Kaushik. They demonstrated SHAVASANA and
described how it induces physical and mental relaxation by acting through Autonomic
Nervous System.
Shavasana is also called Corpse pose
as it looks like a dead body.
It is one of the best technique that relaxes body and
mind by relaxing sympathetic activity resulting in:
Decrease in heart rate and rate of respiration
Decrease in blood pressure
Decrease in muscle tension
Decrease in metabolic rate and consumption of oxygen
Reduction in general anxiety
Improvement in concentration and alertness
The role of Yoga in OSTEOARTHROSIS was presented by Dr. Dikshant
Chauhan, Dr. Princee Shahi and Dr. Surbhi
Khatta. They demonstrated
PASCHIMOTASANA and described how it facilitates
effortless movements of hip and knees joints and
relaxes muscles.
In paschimotasana, the yogi sits on the floor with legs flat on the floor, straight ahead then bends forward from the hips to bring the trunk parallel with the legs
The role of Yoga in HYPERTENSION was
presented by Dr. Nudhrath Haque, Dr. Samridhi Jain and Dr.
Swati Singh. They described the role
of Surya Namaskar, Trikonasana and
Anulom Vilom in the management of hypertension.

The role of Yoga in GASTROINTESTINAL
COMPLAINTS was presented by
Dr. Rashmi Rani. She described the role of BHUJANGASAN in the management of various gastrointestinal troubles
such as flatulence, constipation and irritable
bowel syndrome.
Bhujangasana opens up the chest, improves breathing, reduces stress, strengthens the shoulders, back and abdomen and more importantly improves circulation and digestion.The pose is great in helping gastrointestinal juices function normally.
The role of Yoga in NEUROLOGICAL COMPLAINTS was
presented by Dr. Himanshu Vats, Dr. Preity Negi and
Dr. Purnima Rai.They described the role of URDH SARVANGASANA
and BHRAMRI PRANAYAM in various neurological disorders.

Dr. V. K. Chauhan elaborated on the anatomical and physiological effects of asanas on the nervous system
The role of Yoga in SPONDYLOSIS was
presented by Dr. Manju, Dr. Saroj Rani, Dr. Shalini
and Dr. Neha Verma.They described the role of
Surya Namaskar and Bhujangasana in cervical and lumbar spondylosis.
Bhujanasana firms and tones the buttocks. It relieves stress and fatigue.It improves circulation of blood and oxygen, especially throughout the spinal and pelvic regions.It strengthens the spine.
The role of Yoga in OBESITY was presented by Dr. Komalpreet Kaur, Dr. Maneela Tomar and
Dr. Swati Bachani.They described the role of Dhanurasana, Bhastrika
Pranayam, Bhujangasana and Trikonasana in regulating metabolic activity and reducing
weight.
The role of Yoga in DIABETES MELLITUS
was presented by Dr. Brijlata, Dr. Nivedita
Manral and Dr. Shivali.They described the role of
Ardh Matsyendrasana, Suptvajrasana and
Kapalbharti Pranayam in regulating metabolic
activity through stress reduction, increased glucose utilization by muscles, and
reduction of weight .

The role of Yoga in DYSLIPIDAEMIA was
presented by Dr. Dushyant, Dr. Geetika Kaushik and
Dr. Manmeet Singh.They described the role of
Chakrasana, Bhujangasana, Naukasana,
Vajrasana, Surya Namaskar and Pranayam
in regulating metabolic activity.

Dr. V. K. Chauhan explained the effects of meditation on the
physiological function of brain.
The Yoga presentations were attended by the staff members, interns, and final BHMS students of Dr. B. R.
Sur Homoeopathic Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre. The seminar concluded with a light refreshment.
