3nd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SYSTEM MODELLING,

OPTIMISATION AND ADVANCED PROCESS AUTOMATION

16-19th DECEMBER 2010, THIRUVANANTHAPAURAM

OVERVIEW The third seminar under the ASTeC Programme: SYMOPA-2010 International

Conference and Pre-conference Tutorial System Modelling, Optimisation and

Advanced Process Automation was attended by conglomeration of delegates

across the Globe, to synergize the academicians, scientists, industrialists

working in the field of Industrial Automation. This was conducted from 16-19th of

December 2010 at Thiruvananthapuram. It was conducted jointly by Control and

Instrumentation Group of CDAC Thiruvanthapuram, IEEE Kerala section and

College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram. Pre conference tutorials were held

on 16th and 17th December 2010 at CDAC Thiruvananthapuram. Ninety

participants from 27 organisations attended the tutorials. The tutorial were on

three topics viz. (1) System Simulation (2) Advanced Process Control (3)

Intelligent Systems. Tutorials were conducted in parallel session with hands on

training. The International Conference tutorials was held on 18th and 19th

December 2010 at Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Hotel, Kovalam,

Thiruvananthapuram. International Conference was organized as six sessions

consisting of 26 papers and two invited talks - Day 1 (18-12-2010) 3 sessions –

(1) Modeling and simulation (2) Advanced Process Automation (3) Intelligent

sensors & Sensor networks and Day 2 (19-12-2010) 3 sessions (1) Industrial

controllers and SCADA systems (2) Intelligent Systems (3) Process optimization.

140 registered participants from 34 organisations attended the conference.

Dinner and Cultural program were arranged on 18th night for the participants.

Pre Conference Tutorial: 16 – 17th December 2010; CDAC

Thiruvananthapuram

The tutorial was inaugurated by Prof Sirish L shah, Senior Industrial Research

Chair in Computer Process Control, University of Alberta, Canada. Felicitations

were offered by Prof Peter Fritzon, Department of Computer and Information

Science, Linkoping University, Prof Anurag Kumar, Department of Electrical

Communication, IISC, Bangalore and Prof T Thyagarajan, Anna University

Chennai.

Pre conference tutorial was held at CDAC on 3 topics – System Simulation;

Advanced Process Control and Intelligent Systems with hands on sessions.

System Simulation was conducted in EMG Computer lab. Advanced Process

Control was conducted at Amphitheatre. Intelligent Systems was conducted at

CIG conference hall.

and SCADA systems (5) Intelligent Systems and (6) Process optimization. The

CONCLUSION

The pre conference tutorial and the International Conference was a well

organized and delegates from across the globe, were present for the event.

Delegates were from Industry, R&D organization, academic institutions and

CDAC centers. The papers were of high quality. All the delegates appreciated

the way the conference was conducted. They thanked CDAC for organizing the

conference in excellent manner. From the feedback collected from the

participants 65% has rated the conference as Excellent and 35% has rated the

conference as Good.
