GRIP #4*

SUMMARY ' .A horizontal loop electromagnetic survey

and a magnetometer survey were conducted on these claims

designated as Grid #4.

Six horizontal loop E.M. anomalies were

located along with eight magnetic highs and five magnetic

lows.

INTRODUCTION

This grid consists of eighteen (18) con

tiguous claims numbered as follows: PA 497204 to PA 497221

inclusive. These claims are all located in the Randall

lake area, district of Kenora (Patricia Portion), Patricia

Mining Division, Ontario. (NTS 53B14).

The ground was staked in the fall of 1977

by St. Joseph Explorations Limited.

A horizontal loop survey and a magneto

meter survey v re conducted on these claims from March lith

to 15th, 1978, to locate airborne conductors on the ground.

LOCATION and ACCESS

These claims are all located 0.4 kilometers

(^ mile) north east of Randall Lake, and south east of the

Agutua arm of Weagamow Lake, (see location map, figure 1).

Access is via float or ski-equipped aircraft

from Red Lake. The trip is approximately 273.5 km (170 air

miles) long flying northeast of Red Lake. At present, a

gravel road ends about 30 miles south of the map area. In

the winter, an ice road up Weagamow Lake to the Indian

Reserve passes within six miles of the area of interest.

Weagamow Lake Reserve, which receives service flights from

Pickle Lake on a regular basis, is about twenty miles to

the northwest.

HISTORY

In 1912, J. B.Tyrrell traversed the Weagamow

Lake area and made geological notes which are found in

Hudson Bay Exploration Expedition, 1912, Ontario Bureau

of Mines, Vol. XXII 1913, pt. l, pp. 161-209. The first

geological mapping was carried out by J.Satterly, Geology

of the Windigo - North Caribou Lake Area, Ontario Department

of Mines, Vol. XLVIII, pt. ix, 1939. The most recent geo

logical mapping was done in 1971 by Thurston P.C., Sage R.P.,

and Seragusa G.M., Operation Winisk Lake: Ontario Depart

ment of Mines and Northern Affairs, Preliminary Map P 711,

1971.

The early history of mineral exploration was

summarized in a report by W.N. Ingram of Pryotex Mining

and Exploration Co. Ltd. The following list outlines the

sequence of exploration:

1957 - main showing discovered by prospector working

for Mosher interest - trenching and x-ray drilling.

1959 - area restaked by prospector Max Lavine and optioned

to Teal Explorations Ltd.

1959 - J. E.Ayrhart St Associates sponsored a Lundberg

Explorations airborne E.M. survey.

1959 - Ayrhart staked claims c.nd optioned them to Anaconda.

1959 - Teal performed trenching with a D-6 bulldozer and

tractor compressor.

1959 - Teal geophysics - horizontal coil E.M. and mag.

by Wagner-Mills geophysics.

1960 - Teal drilled 15 holes totaling 4,889 feet.

1960 - Pickle-Patricia Explorers - Geo Scientific

Prospectors long wire E.M.survey.

1960 - East Trinity Mining Corp., - mag. and magniphase

surveys.

1967 - Pyrotex Mining and Exploration Co. Ltd. carried

out 3,500 feet diamond drilling.

1972 - Inco drilled one hole in ultramafic rock beneath

Agutua Arm.

1976 - Main showing staked by R.Knappett and optioned 17

claims to St.Joseph Explorations Ltd.

1977 - Questor airborne E.M. survey for St.Joseph Explora

tions Ltd.

1977 - Reconnaissance geological mapping as follow-up to

airborne E.M. anomalies.

GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS

Approximately 29.7 kilometers of line was

cut on these claims and was covered with, a Max-Min II

electromagnetic system (see appendix II for specifications).

The coil separation was 100 meters with readings being

taken at very 25 meter intervals. The frequency used was

1777 Hz.

A magnetometer survey was also conducted

over the property usiag u Barringer GM-122 magnetometer

(see appendix III for specifications). Readings were again

taken at 25 neter intervals.

A Scintrex total field magnetic base sta

tion, model MBS-2 (see appendix IV for specifications) was

set up 50 meters from the back of the camp on the southeast

end of Randall Lake. This unit was utilized to make diurnal

corrections on raw magnetometer data. A reading was taken

every "minute with the instrument and was recorded on a strip

chart recorder.

The grid lines were separated by 100 meters

and were picketed every 25 meters.

The surveys were carried out by the follow

ing personnel:

V.C.Papertzian, 89 Macpherson Ave., Toronto, Ontario.

M.Marren, 27 Augusta St., Cambridge, Ontario.

A.Sweezey, P.O. Box 733, Kingston, Ontario.

C.Perity, 8771 Tardif Ave., Lasalle, Quebec.

RESULTS and INTERPRETATION

Horizontal Loop Survey

The horizontal loop results are plotted

on a scale of 1:5000 with a profile scale of l cm ~ 2096.

This survey located six anomalies on

the property labeled from A to F and shown on the horizontal

loop E.M. plot. Only the axes have been plotted.

Anomaly A strikes from line 2+OOW to line

6+OOW and is approximately 1+50 meters north of the base

line. The best expression of this anomaly occurs on line

5+OOW at 1+25N. The in-phase to out-of-phase ratios are

in the order of 2 to 1. This anomaly is estimated to be

very narrow and dips steeply to the south.

Anomaly B occurs between lines 1+00 west

at 2+25 north and line 14+00 east at 1+00 north. This is

a weak out-of-phase anomaly which tends to follow the lake.

This is probably due to a shear along the length of the

lake.

Anomaly C ranges from line 2+00 east to 0+75

north at line 5+00 east at 0+00 north. The best expression

of this anomaly occurs on line 4+00 east at 0+25 north.

The in-phase to out-of-phase ratios are in the order of

3 to 1. The anomaly at this point is approximately 5 meters

wide and dips very steeply to the north.

Anomaly D strikes roughly east-west from

line 3+00 east at 5+75 south to line 8+00 east at 4+75

south. The best expression of this anomaly occurs on line

5+00 east at 5+25 south. The in-phase to out-of-phase ratios

are in the order of l to 1. The anomaly at this point is

approximately 5 meters wide and dips very steeply to the

north.

Page 7: REPORT ON GROUND...of the Windigo - North Caribou Lake Area, Ontario Department of Mines, Vol. XLVIII, pt. ix, 1939. The most recent geo logical mapping was done in 1971 by Thurston

Anomaly E is only 100 meters long between

line 13+00 east at 3+25S and line 14+00 east at^ 3+25 south.

It strikes east-west and has an in-phase to out-of-phaseo^

ratioAl to 1. The anomaly is very narrow in width and

dips very steeply to the south.

Anomaly F is located between line 2+00 west at 7+25

south to line 6+00 east at 6+00 south. The best expression

of this anomaly occurs on line 1+00 east at 7+00 south where

the in-phase to out-of-phase ratios are in the order of l to

1. Anomaly F at this A -)int is estimated to be 5 meters wide

and dips steeply to the south.

Magnetometer Survey

The magnetometer survey is also plotted

at a scale of 1:5000 and the map is contoured at 1000 gamma

intervals.

Eight magnetic highs were located, \.he

highest being 67,900 gammas. The magnetic high on line

6+00 west at 1+50 north corresponds with the HLEM anomaly

denoted as "A". Also the magnetic high occurring on line

3+00 west at 0+75 north and 2+00 west at 1+25 north

corresponds with anomaly "A" as well.

The mr^netic high on line 0+00 at 2+00

north corresponds to anomaly "B" of the horizontal loop

E.M. survey. Anomaly "B" of the horizontal loop survey

also has magnetic highs located on lines 3+00 east at

1+75 north and at 6+00 east at 1+75 north.

One other magnetic high occurs on line

4+00 east at 0+50 north. This corresponds to the horizontal

loop anomaly called "C".

Five magnetic lows were also located, the

lowest being 54000 gammas, which was a forced reading.

The first low again overlies the HLF.M

anomaly "A" on line 6+00 west at 1+75 north. Another

magnetic low overlying this same anomaly occurs on line

5+00 west at 1+25 north.

Page 8: REPORT ON GROUND...of the Windigo - North Caribou Lake Area, Ontario Department of Mines, Vol. XLVIII, pt. ix, 1939. The most recent geo logical mapping was done in 1971 by Thurston

One other low corresponds to the "C"

horizontal loop anomaly and it is located on line 4-1-00

east at 0+25.

The other two magnetic lows, both located

on line 1+00 east at 1+25 north and 0+50 north do not

correspond to any of the horizontal loop anomalies.

RESULTS and CONCLUSIONS

The results of the geophysics indicate

the presence of a bedrock conductor that should be ex

plained. It is recommended that some detailed mapping

and prospecting be carried out in the area of the

horizontal loop anomalies. If this does not account for

the anomaly, then soil sampling and rock geochemistry

should also be carried out.

Respectfully submitted,

VCP*MS V.C.Papertzian August, 1978

(i i ) Magnetometer Instrument Data

General Description Principle of Operation

If a proton rich fluid such as Kerosene, jet fuel,

heptane, etc. is placed into a magnetic field the protons

will align along the magnetic field vector. The magnetic

field is induced in the sensor upon depressing the push

button. Then this field is suddenly removed. Protons,

which behave as elementary gyroscopes will start pre-

cessing around the remaining magnetic field that of the

earth. The precession frequency is directly proportional

to the magnetic field of the earth. The magnetometer

counts this frequency, divides it by the appropriate

constant to obtain a reading in gammas and displays the

reading in 'the form of a 5 digit number.

SUMMARY

A horizontal loop electromagnetic survey and a

magnetometer survey were conducted on these claims designated

as grid #1.

One horizontal loop E.M. anomaly was located

along with four magnetic highs and one magnetic low.

INTRODUCTION

This grid conrists of four contiguous claims

numbered as follows: PA 5' 1006 to PA501009 inclusive. These

claims are all located in the Randall Lake area, District of

Kenora, (Patricia portion), Patricia Mining Division, Ontario.

(NTS 53B14)

These claims were staked in November of 1977

for St. Joseph Explorations Limited.

A horizontal loop survey and a magnetometer

survey were conducted on these claims on March 8th S 9th,

1978, to locate airborne conductors on the ground.

LOCATION AND ACCESS

This block of four claims is located 0.4 km.

(\ mile) south-west of the end of Randall Lake, (see location

map, figure 1).

Access is via float or ski-equipped aircraft

from Red Lake. The trip is approximately 273.5 km. (170 air

miles) long^flying northeast of Red Lake. At present, a

gravel road ends about 30 miles south of the map area. In

the winter an ice road up Weagomow Lake to the Indian Reserve

passes within six males of the area of interest. Weagamow

Lake Reserve, which received service flights from Pickle Lake

on a regular basis, is about twenty miles to the northwest.

HISTORY

In 1912, J. B. Tyrell traversed the Weagamow

Lake area and made geological notes which are found in Hudson

Bay Exploration Expedition, 1912, Ontario Bureau of Mines

Vol. XXII 1913, pt. 1. pp. 161-209. The first geological

mapping wa,s carried out by J. Satterly, Geology of the Windigo

- North Caribou Lake Area, Ontario Department of Mines,

Vol. XLVIII, pt. ix, 1939. The most recent geological mapping

was done in 1971 by Thurston P. C., Sage R.P., and Seragusa

G.M., Operation Winisk Lake: Ontario Department of Mines and

Northern Affairs, Preliminary Map P.711, 1971.

GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS

Approximately 6.1 km. (3.8 miles) of line was

cut on this claim group. The grid lines were separated by

100 meters and were picketed at 25 meter intervals in the bush.

The grid was covered with a Max-Min II electro

magnetic system (see appendix II for specifications). The

coil separation was 100 i.ieters and readings were taken at 25

meter intervals. The frequency read was 1777 hz.

A magnetometer survey was also conducted on

this ground using a Barringer GM-122 magnetometer, (see

appendix III for specifications). Readings were taken at 25

meter intervals along the lines.

Page 27: REPORT ON GROUND...of the Windigo - North Caribou Lake Area, Ontario Department of Mines, Vol. XLVIII, pt. ix, 1939. The most recent geo logical mapping was done in 1971 by Thurston

- 3 -

A scintrex total field magnetic base station,

model MBS-II, (see appendix IV for specifications) was

utilized to make diurnal corrections on raw magnetometer data.

The base station sensor head was set up 50 meters from the

base camp on the south shore of Randall Lake. See location

map for the base station location. A reading was taken every

minute by the instrument and was recorded on a strip chart

recorder.

The above surveys were carried out by the

following personnel:

N. W. Rayner, 37 Martin Rd., Toronto, Ontario

M. Marren, 27 Augusta St., Cambridge, Ontario

A. Sweezey, P. O. Box 733, Kingston, Ontario.

C. Ferity 8771 Tardif Ave., Lasalle, Quebec

RESULTS AND INTERPRETATION

Horizontal Loop Survey

The horizontal loop results are plotted on a

scale of 1:5000 with a profile scale of l cm s 2Q0/*.

This survey shows one out-of-phase anomaly

from line 6+00 west at 2+50 north to line 2+00 west at 2+50

north. The anomaly trends northeast to south-west. The best

expression of this anomaly occurs on line 4+00 west at 2+25

north. The in-phase to out-of-phase ratios are in the order

of l to 12 and the anomaly is dipping steeply to the south east.

At this point it is considered to be about 5 meters wide.

This anomaly is possibly due to conductive overburden.

Page 28: REPORT ON GROUND...of the Windigo - North Caribou Lake Area, Ontario Department of Mines, Vol. XLVIII, pt. ix, 1939. The most recent geo logical mapping was done in 1971 by Thurston

- 4 -

Magnetometer Survey

The magnetometer survey is also plotted at a

scale of 1:5000 and the map is contoured at 60500, 60800 and

61000 gamma contours.

Four magnetometer highs were located along

with one low. One high is located on line 5+00 west at 5+60

north, another on line 2+00 west at 2+10 north, and another

on line 2+00 west at 0+70 south.

One broad high occurs from line 7+00 west at

2+60 north to line 4+00 west at 2+75 north. This broad high

overlies the horizontal loop anomaly on the south western

end.

On line 2+00 west at 2+50 north a magnetic low

occurs. This low overlies the north-eastern end of the

horizontal loop anomaly.

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The results of the geophysics may indicate the

presence of a bedrock comductor. It is recommended that some

detailed mapping and prospecting be carried out in the area of

the horizontal loop anomaly. This may explain the source of

this anomaly. Should this fail to account for this anomaly

soil sampling and rock geochemistry should be carried out.

Respectfully submitted,

/l/'rc/- ,(_.

V. C. Papertzian.

MAXMIN EM II SYSTEM

The Maxniin II is a two-man continuously portable EM

system. It is designed to measure both the vertical and horizontal

in-phase (IP) and quadrature (QP) components of the anomalous field

from electrically conductive zones.

The plane of 'the transmitter (Tx) is kept parallel to the

mean slope between the transmitter and receiver (Rx) at all times.

The Maxmin II is a horizontal loop (HL) system when the receiver

measures anomalous components perpendicular to .the mean slope between

the coils. It is a minimum coupled (Min C) system when the receiver

measures anomalous components parallel to the mea/i slope between

the coils.

(ii) Magnetometer Instrument Data

General Description, Principle of Operation

If a proton rich fluid such as Kerosene, jet fuel,

heptane, etc. is placed into a magnetic-field the protons

will align along the magnetic field vector. The magnetic

field is induced in the sensor upon depressing the push

button. Then this field is suddenly removed. Protong

which behave as elementary gyroscopes will start pre-

cessing .arovind the remaining magnetic field that of the

earth. The precession frequency is directly proportional

Lo the magnetic field of the earth. The magnetometer

counts this frequency, divides it by the appropriate

constant to obtain a reading in gammas and displays the

reading in the form of a 5 digit number.

GRID #2

SUMMARY

A horizontal loop electromagnetic survey

and a magnetometer survey were conducted on these c\aims

designated as Grid #2. One horizontal loop E.M. anomaly

as well as one magnetic high and low were located.

INTRODUCTION

The grid consists of four contiguous claims

numbered as follows: PA 501010 to PA 501U13 inclusive.

These claims are all located in the South Weagamow Lake area,

District of Kenora (Patricia Portion), Patricia Mining

Division, Ontario (NTS 53B14). The ground was staked on

behalf of St.Joseph Explorations Limited in the fall of

1977.

Both a horizontal loop survey and a magneto

meter surv.-y were conducted on these claims on March 6,

1978. to locate airborne conductors on the ground.

LOCATION and ACCESS

These claims are all located on the south

shore of Wapikiskapika Lake. This lake is located south-

west of the Agutua Arm of Weagamow Lake (see location map

figure 1).

Access is via float or ski-equipped air

craft from Red Lake. The trip is approximately 273.5 kmf

(170 air miles) long flying northeast of Red Lake. At

present, a gravel road ends about 30 miles south of the

map area. In the winter an ice road up Weagamow Lake to

the Indian Reserve passes within six miles of the area of

interest. Weagar.iow Lake Reserve, which receives service

flights from Pickle Lake on a regular basis, is about

twenty miles to the northwest.

Page 46: REPORT ON GROUND...of the Windigo - North Caribou Lake Area, Ontario Department of Mines, Vol. XLVIII, pt. ix, 1939. The most recent geo logical mapping was done in 1971 by Thurston

HISTORY

In 1912, J.B.Tyrrell traversed the

Weagamow Lake area and made geological notes which

are found in Hudson Bay Exploration Expedition, 1912,

Ontario Bureau of Mines Vol. XXII 1913, pt. l pp. 161-

209. The first geological mapping was carried out by

J.Satterly, Geology of the Windigo - North Caribou Lake

Area, Ontario Department of Mines, Vol. XLVIII, pt. ix,

1939. The most recent geological mapping was done in

1971 by Thurston P.C., Sage R.P., and Seragusa, G.M.,

Operation Winisk Lake: Ontario Department of Mines and

Northern Affairs, Preliminary Map P.711, 1971.

GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS

Approximately 5.4 kilometers (3.4 miles)

of line was cut and laid out on the lake on this claim

group. The grid lines were separated by 100 meters and

were picketed every 100 meters on the lake and at 25

meter intervals in the bush.

The grid was covered with a Max-Min II

electromagr- u ic system (see appendix I I for specifications)

The coil separation was 100 meters and readings were taken

at 25 meter intervals. The frequency read was 1777 hz.

A magnetometer survey was also conducted

on this ground using a Barringer GM-122 magnetometer, (see

appendix lil for 'specifications). Readings were taken at

25 meter intervals along the lines.

A Scintrex total field magnetic base sta

tion, model MBS-II, (see appendix IV for specifications)

was utilized to make diurnal corrections on raw magneto

meter data. The base station sensor head was set up 50

meters from the base camp on the south shore of Randall

Lake. See location map for the base station location. A

reading was taken every minute by the instrument and was

recorded on a strip chart recorder.

Page 47: REPORT ON GROUND...of the Windigo - North Caribou Lake Area, Ontario Department of Mines, Vol. XLVIII, pt. ix, 1939. The most recent geo logical mapping was done in 1971 by Thurston

The above surveys were carried out by the

following personnel:

N.W.Rayner, 37 Martin Rd., Toronto, Ontario.

M.Warren, 27 Augusta St., Cambridge, Ontario.

A.Sweezey, P.O. Box 733, Kingston, Ontario.

C.Ferity, 8771 Tardif Ave., Lasalle, Quebec.

RESULTS and INTERPRETATION

Horizontal Loop Surve

The horizontal loop results are plotted

on a scale of 1:5000 with a pr file scale of l cm s 2096.

This survey shows a continuous anomaly

extending from line 2+00 east at 1+75 north to line

1+00 west at 1+75 north. It trends roughly east-west.

The best expression of this anomaly occurs

on line 1+00 west at 1+55 north. At this point the in-

phase to out-of-phase ratios are in the order of l to 1.

The conductor is very narrow and dips to the north. This

anomaly is almost totally an out-of-phase anomaly and

is probably due to conductive overburden.

Magnetometer Survey

The magnetometer survey is also plotted

at a scale of 1:5000 and the map is contoured at 500 gamma

intervals.

One magnetic high was noted on line 1+00

oast at 1+55 north and this corresponds to the horizontal

loop anoinaly.

One magnetic low was also located on line

3+00 east at 2+00 north, but this did not correspond to

the horizontal loop anomaly.

Page 48: REPORT ON GROUND...of the Windigo - North Caribou Lake Area, Ontario Department of Mines, Vol. XLVIII, pt. ix, 1939. The most recent geo logical mapping was done in 1971 by Thurston

CONCLUSIONS and RECOMMENDATIONS

The results of the geophysics indicate

the presence of a conductive overburden anomaly. It is

recommended that this be confirmed by detailed mapping

and prospecting along the south shore since the anomaly

occurs off-shore.

Respectfully submitted,

VCP*MS August, 1978

MAXMIN EM II SYSTEM

The Maxmin II is a two-man continuously portable EM

The Maxmin II is a horizontal loop (HL) system when the receiver

measures anomalous components perpendicular to the mean slope between

the coils. It is a minimum coupled (Min C) system when the receiver

measures anomalous components parallel to the mean slope between

the coils.

(i i ) Magnetometer JCnjstrument Data

General Description, Principle of Operation

If a proton rich fluid such as Kerosene, jot fuel,

heptane, etc. is placed into a magnetic field the protons

will align along the magnetic field vector. The magnetic

field is induced in the sensor upon depressing thr p h-

button. Then this field is suddenly removed. Protons,

which behave as elementary gyroscopes will start pro

cessing around the remaining magnetic field that of the

earth. The precession frequency is directly proportional

to the magnetic field of the earth. The magnetometer

counts this ,frcquency, divides it by the appropriate

constant to obtain a reading in gammas and displays the

reading in the form of a 5 digit number.
