As you are aware, “Basic Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics Export Promotion Council” popularly known as CHEMEXCIL was established by the Government of India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry with the objective of promoting exports of Dyes & Dye Intermediates, Organic & Inorganic Chemicals, Agro Chemicals, Pesticides, Soaps, Detergents, Cosmetics, Toiletries, Essential Oils, Castor Oils etc from India to overseas markets. Moreover, CHEMEXCIL, with a membership base of over 4000 provides complementary service as a reliable single point source for foreign buyers interested in sourcing from India. You will appreciate that bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh have witnessed a transformation in the recent times with positive developments like signing of India-Bangladesh Land Boundary Agreement, India's new US$2.0 billion line of credit (LoC) to Bangladesh etc. which augers well for fostering bilateral trade between both the countries which was around USD 6.77 billion in the last fiscal. India’s 2013-14 exports to Bangladesh are around USD 6.25 billion and imports from Bangladesh stand at USD 517 million. Bangladesh as we all know is an important market specially for Dyes & Dye Intermediates and Basic Chemicals. In value terms, the total export performance of the items covered under the purview of CHEMEXCILL to Bangladesh for the year 2014-15 (provisional) was USD 308.81 million (provisional) out of which export of Dye Stuffs and Basic Chemicals to Bangladesh during the year 2014-15 was USD 223.20 million (Provisional). I am glad to inform you that CHEMEXCIL is participating in the 22nd Dye+Chem Bangladesh 2015 Int’l Expo from 2nd to 5th September, 2015 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Dhaka, Bangladesh. I am sure that our participation in the 22nd Dye+Chem Bangladesh 2015 Int’l Expo would provide a window of opportunities and vibrant platform to our exporting community for fruitful interaction and clinch attractive business deals. Garment exports, the backbone of Bangladesh’s industrial sector, accounted for more than 80% of total exports and surpassed $18 billion in 2014. The sector has remained resilient in recent years. Steady garment export growth combined with remittances from overseas Bangladeshis - which totalled $14 billion and 8% of GDP in 2014 - are the largest contributors to Bangladesh’s current account surplus and rising foreign exchange holdings

INDIA-BANGLADESH TRADE AND COMMERCIAL RELATIONS

Economics has played a significant role in the bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh. The economic relations between the two countries have been multifaceted, embracing trade transactions, credit arrangements, joint ventures, transit facilities and transport development. These relations have continued and expanded even in situations of adverse political relations. This is mainly because of the operation of objective factors like geographical proximity, common language, similarity of consumption pattern, common development needs and experience, and commonality of the inherited infrastructure.

i) BILATERAL TRADE

Bilateral trade between both the countries stood at USD 6.77 billion in the last fiscal. India’s

2013-14 exports to Bangladesh are around USD 6.25 billion and imports from Bangladesh stand at
